These pics aren't new, but I was just looking at 'em and remembering how much FUN playing with my Balls can be!

This was a GOOD day.

Haha, I love playing with my balls too! They don't like when I play with them during worship though....

The tarp floor is a great one for outdoors. Will keep that in mind for next time we play a backyard party. Never thought of that, thanks for the idea!

A tip:

Tarps are cheap. Get the right size....

This gig, we had a tarp big enough to cover a barn, and it wound up blowing up in front of us.....

For this Saturday's gig (an important one) I've purchased a 12x12 instant-up awning, and a 12x12 tarp to stand on.

It was at a local farmer's market, held in the parking lot of a small shopping center. I found the gig from a local paper that said that this particular market features live music. So I called them, and they hired us.

Really small-scale thing, but what the heck...they pay, and the sponsors (a local liquor store) give us an employee discount as part of the deal!

Hey adouglas,

How many bongos do you have? I count three in those photos. Damn Bongoloid ;) So, is the Blue Dawn fretless? Hmmmm.....

Nice pics! Nothin better than a perfect outdoor day with music!

I've done the tarp thing once - we played on a lakefront beach earlier this year. Don't know which was worse, dealing with the tarp or the damn unlevel, ever-shifting sand beneath!

When we do grass we get right in it - amps on platforms or stands, but toes in the grass. :)

Nice pics. Playing outside is great - I think the best gigs I've done have been outside. Maybe everyone is in more of a laid back relaxed party sort of mood.

I know you posted about this before, but how do you get on with the Bose system? What size of venue could you play with that set-up? Is there any problem with bass delivery, bongoloid-wise-speaking? Do you miss the grunt you'd get from, say a nice big fat 500W Ashdown 4x10?? :D

Considering that the system I'm playing through is 1000 watts, there's no problem at all... :D

But power specs are utterly misleading. What's brighter...a 25-watt fluorescent light bulb or a 75-watt incandescent? The fluorescent is. But it's only 1/3 the wattage.

There's plenty of bass output.

Anything up to a medium-sized venue is fine...say 500 people. That's the design intent of the system. Any venue bigger than that is probably going to have house PA anyhow.

The sound remains very consistent and listenable outdoors out to about 80-100 feet from the stage.

Thanks. Don't want to hijack your thread but these things have intrigued me. They are expensive (especially over here) but I don't have a PA and the idea of rolling backline and PA into one system is quite appealing and may make some sort of economic sense if I cross my eyes and brainwash myself hard enough. Does each player need a system of their own or do you just add bits to get the output you want in total?

Hmmm. Markbass. Bose. Markbass. PA. Bose. Bongo. Bose. Trip to Coachella....
