Hi guys!
I'm visiting New York City for a week, so I decided to drop by the Guitar Center near Union Square.
They have quite the selection of HHALs, at least 4 different colors, plus the special Mahogany-Rosewood MM90s edition which I didn't try as all I wanted to check from the AL was the neck. (It's nice if you like a slightly beefier neck, I personally prefer the Silo).
They also had a few JPs, amongs them a JPXI-7 that I tried. The neck really is a dream come true for benders due to the super-flat radius and the stainless steel frets. This was the first time I plugged in a seven string and I decided I'm having enough trouble playing the 6 string to add the extra difficulty of keeping quiet the 7th string when not playing it (though I must say, the ergonomics are perfect, you hardly notice it's not a six string that you're holding until you strum it).
But the clear winner of all the music mans I tried was the GC Special Edition Silhouette Special. This particular one had a trem, three single coils, some kind of Metallic Teal finish, and a Rosewood NECK. It was a dream to play and hear, and I finally understood the beauty and simplicity of the 3 single coil setup. Using the volume and tone controls and playing into a proper amp, the guitar as a very wide palette of sounds from middy to trebly to bassy and any combination. I was playing into a Blues Jr, which definitely likes single coils more than humbuckers. I hope I can find that model again whenever I am back in the market for a second guitar.
I really recommend that you guys check out those Silo Specials. The rosewood neck is suuuuper smooth and combined with the single coils and the ergonomics of the silhouette makes for a very special guitar.
Sorry, no photos, I didn't have any proper device for the task. So I will leave you with a photo of the star of the show from the GC Platinum website:
