Welcome to Day 9 of my annual New Year's New Guitar Days (NYNGD)!
Thanks for the kind words and comments on Thursday's NYNGD #2016-8!
My friends, we now cross the midpoint of our journey. Which, for the Class of 2016, means we still have a long way to go!
Today's NYNGD is a blue quilt Axis that is out of this world! What a stunning blue quilt top, and an outstanding figured maple neck and fretboard. This particular Axis is one of those quilt tops where to the naked eye you could swear that the clearcoat is rippled, as though somehow the quilted maple caused the clearcoat to check. Light bends strangely and reflections in the top ripple like water. And then you touch the top to asess the damage and find that it's as smooth as a mirror. A total optical illusion brought on by the depth of the quilt. Stunning. This guitar sustains for days and is super, super stable. Play it every day for two hours and it's in perfect tune; leave it in its case in the truck for two days in the cold and it's stil in perfect tune; leave it hanging for two months in the studio and it's still in perfect tune. The neck is just a super-stable piece of maple! Mother nature cooperates sometimes (I remind myself as it's been 10 degrees in NY this past week)!

(The back story in case you're new to my NYNGD: For the past couple of years I've done a fun thing that most of you I think enjoyed, and I thought I would do it again this year. Every year, I am a slacker about keeping my Guitar Gallery up to date... So, as a fun holiday thing, let's launch a guitar in the Guitar Gallery each day leading up to New Years Eve! In the past I've received PM's about my collection and whether I play all of these guitars.
The same question came up during my NYNGD posts a few years ago and my answer was pretty detailed and well thought-out, so please check it out here!)
(Also, in case anybody gets any funny ideas -- these guitars are not at my house. They are all in my very secure and alarmed studio facility. I usually only have two guitars floating around the house...)
