Welcome to Day 15 of my annual New Year's New Guitar Days (NYNGD)!
Thanks for the kind words and comments on NYNGD #2022-14!
And we're down to the last five NYNGD for 2022! And looking at the last five it is hard to pick the right order, but let's give it a shot!
Today's NYNGD is a stunning Axis BFR Double Trouble from the Winter 2021 BFR Run (which I received in January 2022 so it falls under NGNGD 2022). HOW COOL IS THIS?!? Limited to 55 pieces worldwide, and I have two of them (!) although only one to talk about in the 2022 NGNGD celebration.
Just look at the TOP(S) on this one. Yes, I said "TOP(S)" because the back has a top. I mean the top has a back. Er. It has two tops? No... um. It has a 5A quilt top and it has a 5A quilt back. The back is different from a normal Axis (besides the fact that it's not solid black) because it doesn't have a tummy cut and has a bound edge instead of the 1/4" roundover on the normal Axis.
Old school birdseye maple non-roasted neck and fretboard, which is kind of a nice trip down memory lane. And I think it's a cool very subtle touch that the poles on the pickups are gold instead of the normal silver/nickel yet the rest of the hardware is normal chrome.
This guitar sounds and feels awesome, even though the non-tummy cut takes some getting used to since I have a... um... a "tummy".
What an awesome EBMM and it just reminds you that the guys in the factory still love to try oddball ideas and have fun. The results are pretty awesome!
Anyone who disagrees that this deserves a Top 5 finish has to fight me...
I'll be back soon with another NYNGD: New Year's New Guitar Day! Thanks for looking everyone!
Past Days:
The new EBMM message board limits the number of characters in a post so I can't put a list of direct links in the post. Click here for an index.
(The back story in case you're new to my NYNGD: For the past couple of years I've done a fun thing that most of you I think enjoyed, and I thought I would do it again this year. Every year, I am a slacker about keeping my Guitar Gallery up to date... So, as a fun holiday thing, let's launch a guitar in the Guitar Gallery each day leading up to New Years Eve! In the past I've received PM's about my collection and whether I play all of these guitars.
The same question came up during my NYNGD posts a few years ago and my answer was pretty detailed and well thought-out, so please check it out here!)
(Also, in case anybody gets any funny ideas -- these guitars are not at my house. They are all in my very secure and alarmed studio facility. I usually only have two guitars floating around the house...)
