Well the MarkBass amp came yesterday, I thru it in a rack with a rack tuner and took it to the Wednesday night’s blues jam at “The Clubhouse” here in GSO.

There were an unusually large number of bass players last night, so I got to hear several different bass guitars thru this rig. I used the house bass cabs, a Hartke 15 and 210 set up.
I had to show most of the bassist how the mid eq section worked, but it’s really a plug and play amp.

First impressions, it’s very powerful, no one cranked the master beyond 3, and some of the jammers play too loud, this amp didn’t even get warm, it runs very cool.

The bass players, and I know all of them and trust their opinions, all agreed that this amp is a “punch monster”, way more punch than anything that’s been used at the jam. I can’t put it in words, but several tried, words like “transparent”, “clear” and “clean” came up the most. One guy who slaps pretty well said it was the fastest amp he’d ever played, I don’t know what he was talking about, but everyone else seemed to.

Anyway this amp is a top shelf keeper; I’m sold on MarkBass and will buy one of their new ones as soon as they hit the shelf!

Here’s a picture with the amp, a red Bongo and a beer.:D

BY fast they might mean that it is like instant attack. Some amps I have played kind of ease into the note, but then amps like the Thunderfunk kind of are really abrupt sounding. I don't know anything about markbass, I'll have to look it up. I'm shopping for a new (bass) head, my EBS is hissy and it is driving me nuts.

ps. your bass is backward.

I'm still diggin' my MarkBass amp. What model is that Chuck, it looks HUUUGE (for a MarkBass anyway)? I know you said it is an older model, but don't think the company is THAT old, and thought all their amps were smaller than the one on top of your Hartkes. Just curious :)

It's a Club Series 450, two rack spaces and weighs 22 lb's. There is a tuner/rack light module in the rack with it., it fits in the smaller FX SKB racks. Powerful little thing.

And in this case it could be a result of the amp as well as the aluminum speakers.

I've never noticed that with Hartke gear.

I actually am not a huge fan of that type of instant attack, even though I play EBS and try to slap occasionally. This one of the reasons I sold my TFB-420. Maybe I'm just not good enough for an amp like that :)

Markbass $$$ ???

There is a lot of talk about these things going about. I was on their site and looking at the 104HF cab and the TA503 (looks like top of line) head. If they sound that great and weigh so little I am definitely interested but am not a rich man. Does anyone have a clue on how these things are priced???

Check out clubbass.ca and divide the prices by 1.15 to get you in the USD ballpark.
