My amp is superior, it truly goes to eleven! When I bought my amp, I was in doubt between ampeg and EBS, both quality amps, but I choose for the EBS Fafner, in my opinion a much more versatile amp, and I got much better service (ampeg is american, EBS from sweden, and I live in Belgium). I always encourage people to try the EBS Fafner, which is a truly great amp. But the SVT is nice too, but if I was going to buy an all tube head, I'd go for a Mesa 400+

I bet EBS is probably cheaper in Belgium too.;) I think it's overpriced here in the States.

Well, I beg to differ with you on this. Both the cabs you have named 610hlf and 410hlf, are PORTED cabinets. They will play about 3db louder than a sealed cabinet of equal design. However, with ported, comes boominess. I owned the 410hlf for a bit...I now have the 810e...with the proper amp driving the 810...It SMOKES the 410hlf....there is no substitution for more surface....IMO

So I'm going to ge totally thrashed here, but I still want to say this: The Ampeg SVT is about as great as a Fe**er P bass. To some people it's the best ever...

IMHO, The Ashdown ABM 500 is a far better sounding amp!
And you are cool enough, you don't need Nikki Sixx cool;)

+1

I love my Ashdown ABM and it has never let me down.

I also have seen SVT's Tube amp on tv...only to catch a closer glimse to find its a SVT350H. I'll say one thing about Ampeg...they have expanded their line to meet just about every need out there.

the SVT is the classic all american amp. I mean some of the greatest bassists in the world stick by them today George Porter Jr, Oteil Burbridge, Rocco Prestia, Meshell Ndegeocello.... the list goes on. I think the 8 ten was a genius combination also because the quality of speakers back then wasn't always the best especially for bass so by using the 10" speaker you really clean up th low end.

ok....ive owned several Ampeg amps and cabs....so i thought i'd post my thought....first, i am completely sold on 'that' Ampeg sound.....my first combination was the SVT-4 paired with the 4x10hlf.....i thought the svt-4 was overrated as far as power is concerned....the tone was ok, but i was not impressed....the 410hlf was way too boomy(due to it being ported)...not my cup of tea either....then i got the svt-cl paired with the 410he and 115he cabs....it sounded good but it still wasnt what i was after....so i picked up a newer 810e cab, and it sounded better, but it still wasnt there....after some more research, i settled on keeping my svt-cl and using it with the Bergantino NV series cabs....they are made for old school tube amps and sound AWESOME together....it sounds much like the vintage 810 cabs from the 60's and 70's....but it is very portable and sounds great....i have the 610 and 425 and they both rock....hope this helps..

Boy you guys won't let up on the RIC....well...perfection is hard to argue against:cool: ....however, I did have my other stingray with the svt 3pro and bxt410hl4 cabinet. That's right, hl4, as in 4 ohm. They don't make the 4or8 ohm option any longer. Just 4 ohm now. So I DID have a stingray at the time, and as the above poster also noted, the cabinet was boomie.

Dude, the CL is a monster. My bass teacher had one, and we I got my Ampeg 4x12(which by the way is for sale, and is a complete monster itself) we hooked that thing up to it and were shaking stuff across the street. We had the master volume on 3 and my lil bro told me he could hear the next street over, perfectly. And it sounded so good to.

I betcha my 412 sounds better than any of your 810s. :)

Well it's a done deal, I bought the big bastard!

thong.jpg

I picked her up at the Raleigh GC right before the store closed. I think they gave me a good deal, everything was in the factory sealed boxes. I got the head for1184.21 and the cab for 776.39.

My wife and I had to wrestle it out of the TrailBlazer, unpacked it and now have NO idea where to put it. But my God this thing is HUGE!!!

I LOVE IT! :D
