I picked her up at the Raleigh GC right before the store closed. I think they gave me a good deal, everything was in the factory sealed boxes. I got the head for1184.21 and the cab for 776.39.

My wife and I had to wrestle it out of the TrailBlazer, unpacked it and now have NO idea where to put it. But my God this thing is HUGE!!!

I LOVE IT! :D

I think it looks PERFECT right there!!! Congrats...oh...by the way....please take down all pictures around it......as I have learned...it likes to move things around when played!!! Happy New Year to you, your wife....and the CLASSIC!!:D

This ... THING... it needs to be played with some righteous classic rock to break it in.

Make you cool? Umm, only if strained backs and the occasional $400 bill for tube changes and leaky capacitors are en vogue...

Seriously, I played an Ampeg head for a while. The monster (which I bought ancoent and used) had an awesome tone, but crapped out after 6 months with a $500 repair bill -- including tube changes etc.

I saved the dough instead and went back to a nice, solid state GK 800RB head.

Still have the Ampeg cab, though, and might piggy back an Ampeg SVT pre-amp in the near future.

Ampeg? Tone, yes! Broken backs, no!

Now, Now...he has just gotton a brand new SVT with warranty....tubes replacement varies with these heads...depending on usage. From18 months to, quite literly 18 years. No worries about leaky caps on the new ones..they have modern caps not like on the vintage SVT's.

`When gigging, you can have trhe cab on it's side, the amp on one side and your butt on the other half of the box:D

I'm happpy for you Chuck and very jealous.

FYI, I use double faced tape on the bottom
of all wall hangings to keep them level.

Awesome Chuck! I love the punch of eight 10's - very nice!

And with spousal approval, no less... :)

Unfortunately, I cannot count on my wife to help cart mine around - I'm on my own moving four 10's at a time... ;)

great rig dude, that looks like a lot of fun.

I remember when I first got my 8x10 I just sat in my living room and played it for about 2 days, and invited all my friends over to show it to them. I have an ampeg amp and I run it through an SWR 8X10 megoliath, that sounds amazing, I think the megoliath is more versitale and it has a tweeter horn, and it has a mirror grill protecting it, which is way better than the fabric/plastic woven protectors for ampeg amps I think, if you accidentally kick it or drop something on it, the woven whatever it is will stretch, making potential harm a lot more easy. I find I can get a great ampeg sound with my ampeg amp and run it through the swr cab. I would definately go with any ampeg tubed amp, those are great, and you can run them through many different cabs and get a great ampeg tone. I got my 8X10 swr megoliath for about $800 on ebay, and I just drove 3 hours south to los angeles to pick it up, made it into a fun road trip.

In my opinion there is no better sound than an Ernie Ball with new strings, and an ampeg tubed head. It just sounds so great!

After you've destroyed your hearing with that, you'd surely need a louder one!

I agree that the SWR chrome grille is great compared to the fabric on the SVT Classic cabs, but I prefer tolex to carpet. When I was cab shopping I searched high and low for a good cab that has a metal grille and tolex rather than carpet. In the end I bought SWR and love them to death, but I wish SWR offered a tolex option (other than on the 12 Stack) instead of grass seed, pet fur and cigarette smoke-collecting carpet.
