One of my favorite TV channels here is the Fox Soccer Channel. And with the FA Cup in full swing, I'm loving life. Sometimes, however, it can be a couple of days before they broadcast the game.

So today I watched Man U get beat by Portsmouth. Now I have to admit, I'm a huge Man U fan. Ronaldo is one of kind, and Rooney is pure entertainment. So I was quite shocked to see the keeper get a red card. I mean, WTF? How could he make that call in a game with so much at stake?

Oh well, at least we have Beckham ;)

Hmmm, you live about 5,000 miles from Old Trafford?

That puts you right there as a Man U fan then!!! :D

I can see the ground from my office window, it's a nightmare to get home when there's a match on....

I love it when Sky Sports interview Man Utd fans after a game at Old Trafford - they've all flown in from Ireland, the rest of Europe or somewhere in the far east. you get Mancunians watching City though;)
also I work with 2 diehard Man U fans who do a 400 mile round trip from Glasgow most weekends and European Cup nights as well.

Oh to see a game there.......

Man U did visit Portland and played an exhibition match out at the Nike campus. Not quite the same as being with a bunch of......what do you call them, hooligans?

So I'm back to my original question - Have any of you ever seen a keeper get a red card in a playoff match?

No it wasn't Van Der Saar - he went off half time with a groin injury. It was Kusczak who brought down the Portsmouth forward after he came on as a sub for VDS. The look on Kusczak's face after the ref produced the card was priceless! He was clearly expecting the penalty but not THAT :) I do think a red AND a penalty is a bit harsh - penalises a team twice really.

But United had sooooo many chances to win that game - if you're relying on Rio Flaming Ferdinand in goal to keep you in the FA Cup, then you can kiss it goodbye.

Good topic by the way :D Gotta love all the shocks this weekend - did feel sorry for poor Bristol Rovers tho!

Do you get your own commentary in the US? Or do you see any of our UK peeps? (John Motson is a LEGEND!)

That game starts in 10 minutes. Thanks for telling me the score ;)

No, we get your announcers. They're much more colorful than ours. And then they'll re-play a game with a couple of fans (typically one from Scotland or Ireland and one from England) which is hysterical. I can barely pick out one or two words per sentence from the guys from Scotland.

Derby County deliberately sit at the bottom of the league every year just to lull you into a false sense of security.
But there time is coming ....please believe me.... please......

You should try being a Rochdale fan...:D

That said I make the trip to Old Trafford with my Dad when ever I am home. Great stadium to watch football in. I was in Tokyo a few weeks about when the Manchester derby was on (the anniversary of Munich as well). Very strange watching with Japanese commentary!!

I love how your first post is about football!!

I wish we got more matches over here, I'm actually Chelsea fan.

Been a long time travel soccer coach, I started coaching 1984. I'm lic. up to u-21, on an ODP level. I am, however, retired now. I'm concentrating on my son's career & training now. I'm sort of a front runner. I like Man U., Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Fulham, Tottenham, Blackburn....most everyone in the upper flight. I'm a fan of great football and great players, more so than a specific team. But if backed into a corner, REDS ALL THE WAY !!!!!
