I'm well along on saving for a Bongo (hear that, Jack?) - a few of the current harem will probably go on the block shortly. I have too friggin' many basses.

I was originally thinking H/H, but I'm a big fan of single humbucker basses AND the positioning of the HB in the Bongo is bewitching. Right in the sweet spot.

Do any of these really exist in nature? What's the sonic differences between one of these and a soloed H/H bridge pickup?

The first thing to remember is that if you don't get the piezos, you will only get the three band EQ with the single humbucker Bongo.

I played a fretless single H Bongo with the 3 band at NAMM and it sounded great. The pickup is located about an inch closer to the neck than the bridge H on a dual pickup Bongo, so it has a little more inherent bass to my ears. It seemed to have a bit more growl than the soloed bridge humbucker, but that could have been a result of the fretlessness of the bass. :D

Some day, I will complete my Bongo trifecta by getting a single H Bongo. But, the 4 band EQ is the bee's knees, cat's pajamas, and Pope's pointy hat all rolled into one, so I'll have to go with the H/P Bongo.

Good info on the EQ - I didn't know that! My problem has been in getting my hands on a selection of Bongos to demo - I hate buying without trying, but I may have to in this case.

I've never even considered getting a piezo in an electric bass - new food for thought!
