Yeah,

I get that same "bug" every now and then. I'm currently listening to the "Johnny Winter captured live" - absolute great, raw, southern sound!!

The Flower Kings!

One of my favorite bands, and definitely my favorite "newer" band. They are a Swedish progressive Rock band in the vein of Yes. However, they can play a little hard rock and even "jam-band" type stuff at tmes. Their guitar player and major songwriter, Roine Stolt, is a phenomenal musician!

Much of their catalogue consists of 10+ minute epics. Also, they have a ton of albums... the only downside is that there is so much music that unfortunately their albums often do have a bit of filler material.

Highly recommended for fans of Yes, old Genesis, and even the Grateful Dead.

Yeah Phat5,

"Day on the Green"!!! Oh yeah!!! The BEST concerts ever produced!!

No, I haven't listened to him with Turner, but I'll definitely check it out! I just "love" Johnny's unique style, and often employ it in mine during "jams".

Did you by chance catch the "Mavericks" up at Half Moon Bay this month??:)

Golden Buddha. Don't even know if these guys are still together, I saw them at Lollapalooza '03 on the second stage. They were wild and nothing like I'd ever heard before, they were kind of psychadelic entrancing alt rock. The bass player was painted silver, the drummer sat indian style on the stage, no throne and the guitar player/singer also sat on stage on a Persian rug and he hit his pedals with his hands. They had belly dancers on each side of the stage. Crazy stuff, they had a CD out called Time Has Come.

Here's a link to their album on CD Baby, the only thing I can find on the net that proves their existence!!!

Daughter of jazz saxophonist, Jan Garbarek. She's a very original artist. She likes contrast in her music. Beauty against ugliness. Acoustic instruments and samples, beautiful melodies and harmony against a collage of noise. All sorts of weird things that should never work but does.
She has made two albums I consider to be masterpieces:
Balloon Mood (1996) and Smiling & Waving (2001).
Unfortunately, her music is hard to do live and what's on youtube is mostly live clips that are not as strong as the recorded versions.

There are a couple of the quiet, "normal" tracks on youtube though:

Two tracks:

"Can I Keep Him?":

(Beautiful music. Lyrics about a serial killer; Dennis Nilsen. Contrast.)

Soundtrack to the movie "Angel-A" (2006)

"Stay Tuned":

Great stuff guys! Keep 'em comming! I gotta throw in another..."The Call"...my ALL time favorite.

TNT, sorry I couldn't make it out to Half Moon Bay....I'm in Iowa; and yes, with the freezing rain and freak sub zero temps, I've been missing Santa Cruz Co.

Bjorkestra

Icelandic eccentric songstress, Bjørk, gets big band treatment:

I'm not into everything of Bjørk's music, but occasionaly she comes up with real gems. "Hyperballad" is one of my favorites. And I think this version is really cool and interesting, even with the so so sound quality. I like it!:)

Earl Greyhound. Slamming power trio from NY, great riffs, very talented musicians. The CD I have is called Soft Targets, and I've been listening to it consistently for the past few months, which is very unusual for me. I usually get bored after a few listens. Here's their site, you can stream the CD to check it out.

I really love Blue Man Group's music. Its pretty much electronica with drumming on plumbing pipes! Check out Rod's & Cones from live at the Venetian. Awesome!

I've really gotten into Colin Hay (Men at Work). He's got some great songs, and even his spin on the MAW songs is interesting.

The Cardigans. The last two albums are unbelievable. Seriously.

Same with Aimee Mann. Downright brilliant songwriting.
