Hello, I always step on my instrument cable during playing (since years, I'm a mover).. and now I want to buy a radio/wireless device. What should I buy? What would you reccomend?

I have the now-discontinued x2 XDS-Plus. The line is now owned by Line6. Both guitards in my band bought the pedal version (XDS95), which uses the same transmitter pack.

Sound is great. No complaints. The freedom is terrific.

We do a LOT of audience interaction and spend a fair bit of time off stage and out in the crowd. Our frontman is a real showman and people love it.

I mean, how can you beat this?

My only complaint is that the transmitter eats batteries like popcorn. One 9v won't get me through a gig. A fresh battery will be on its last legs long before the end of a gig, but I'm basing that on the battery meter built into the receiver, which may be pessimistic... I've never actually run the thing dry and have always either replaced the battery during a break or just plugged in direct when the warning light starts flashing. The newer units that the guitarists have seem to be more efficient.

So I use it only for gigs.

I use the Line 6 Relay G50. Excellent sound, the transmitter runs on 2 AA batteries and I get about 3 shows out of them (we play for 2-3 hours per show). No complaints whatsoever. I had an inexpensive Nady that really modified my tone, but this Line 6 wireless sounds the same as when I'm hard wired.

XDS95 user here. My guitarists use the XDS-Plus's themselves, too. Very nice wireless units overall. You can almost always find them used for <$100 too, so it's a bargain.

Buy AKG WMS 40 PRO/Guitarbug UHF Wireless Guitar System | Instrument Wireless Systems | Musician's Friend

I've been using this system for over 4 years without any issues. One BIG selling point for me was that it uses just (1) AAA battery! It lasts at least for about 4-6 hours of play, so it saves a bunch of money. Plus the transmitter it so small that you may forget you have it attached. Just be careful when moving in tight places that you don't accidentally hit the transmitter. Other than that, it's the best wireless I've EVER used.

+1 on the Line 6. I use the G35, and love it. In fact, I gigged with it just yesterday, and was able to walk so far from stage, that the delay made it difficult to play!

Wow, thank you all.. I've decided to go with a LINE6 RELAY G30, the G50 is more advanced but I don't have/want to spend the money for it. Sound should be the same quality. The AKG WMS 40 PRO works with MHz and the Line 6 works with GHz. In Europe we will maybe get some issues with the MHz frequencies, so I'm going the save way with the G30.

Thanks again and have a great day :)

Although it is a bit more pricy than the G30, I have heard a lot of good things about the the StageClix: (Local German link) stageClix Jack

A friend play it and has never has any problems. During breaks you can simply plug it into the receiver and it recharges.

No personal experience, but when I was looking at wireless systems before, I believe I heard some fairly negative things about that model. At least mixed reviews. Talkbass had a whole thing about wireless systems you might want to hunt down.

heyho Matt thanks for the link.. if you check the Stageclix at Thomann Cyberstore you can find negative critics about it (in german), don't know if the comments are only crap or real experience, you never know.. but EUR 500 is much to much for it.

Personaly I've heard nothing bad from two Line6 users.. also here @EB the users are happy with it.

There is another out... BRACE DWG 1000 MK II.. which is availlable for under EUR 200.. a friend pointed me at this.. but transmitter and receiver are using batteries, with the Line6 I only need batteries for the transmitter.

Most negative reviews I had seen were regarding the G50's special cable requirement. The G30 uses 1/4" -> 1/4" on the transmitter, which means you can use any pedal board patch cable. If you don't need the G50's features, the G30 is actually more convenient.

My only gripe with the G30 transmitter is that it falls off the strap easily, so I have to clip it to my back pocket. The fact that you can use any right angle patch cable makes it real nice with EBMM guitars.
