As long as there is no drilling involved and its a reversible modification then hope it works out well.

indeed! there are far cheaper ways to go about it, in fact i had a muting device that cost 2$ designes to mute strings but these were adjustable and made of a similar material as the EBMM mutes that i loved the sound of so much.

and yes im talking about the bassmute! its pretty great and it doesnt look awful, although personally i would prefer to have the mute bridge on the 3eqs made in the 90s(look a lot snazzier and are far easier to fine tune, but i love this and it gives me the same sound i loved!

i was also wondering though, i forgot the reason why. why cant someone just put an old style bridge on a newer stingray anyways?

Because the trings wouldn't line up with the pole pieces. The bridge was located a little to one side and therefore putting this design onto a newer bass would mean it is the wrong position. I think.

They fixed that with the classics though. I think.

Kevins, if you have a no mute style bridge there's always the simplest of solution which really works (and often even better than on the ones with mutes) and that is to place a inch thick strip of rubber under the strings, even famous people do it, I saw Robbie Shakespear with one on his bass and Mike Oldfield recorded bass on Tubular Bells with a similar strip of foam on the bass!!

it works well and I can have it on and off as I like it takes uh... 10 seconds to fit.

Can you do it between the verse and the chorus 4 times in a single song?

I can.

And, I can consistently adjust the amount of mute for each individual string and it will be the exact same amount of muting each time I engage the mute.

There is no method of wedging a piece of foam under the strings that works as well as this system. Period.

I told you you wouldn't need my help putting it on the bass, Kevin.

Of course, you are right I can't argue with that, I admit the functionality of your system is much more advanced and professional than my 50 cents worth of foam, I was just speaking from a practical point of view, and the fact that the bassmute system will costs well over $100 compared to my $0.50 foam slab, and the fact that I can have it on a bass on a stand right by my left on and swap it with the other bass without. Never needed to have it on and off in a single song as you say "between the verse and the chorus 4 times in a single song?" as if, I am not Geddy fuffing Lee, am I? :D :D

does anyone know if it fits on a sr5? the pickguard on the sr5 is a little close to the right side of the bridge, so i was wondering if it fits

I don't think so. Looking at the pictures of SR5s, I think you would need to modify the pickguard a little bit to get it to fit properly.

I had to modify the pickguards on my Bongo 5HHp to get it to fit.

Totally worth it, but that was an easy fix--simply cut a straight line along the bottom to make room. But, with the SR5, you'd need to cut a little nick out of it. Not impossible, but definitely needing a more precise mod.

I can't help thinking how far I get away with an inch thick strip of foam without "fuffing about" cutting things and modifying pickguards and what not.

I wedge one in and then I pull it out, can it get any easier? :D

hmm if i need to do things to the pickguard, then maybe not for now

i might try the 'piece of foam' method, but having control over the degree of muting sounds pretty cool :p
