Following on from a suggestion on another thread, I present the official dings-on-my-guitar thread!

And to start it off:

CIMG35231.jpg

This is my ASS, and look at the 2 beautiful bruises, both just about viewable below the bridge and the pickup. This beauties happened when a Mackie PA cab slid off a table, bashed into me, slid off the guitar and landed at my feet destroying a Line 6 shortboard (the cab weighed 63kg!)

Next up, on the same guitar:

CIMG35221.jpg

3 fantastic chips between the jack socket and the lower strap button. Caused by 1000's of gigs and a dodgy guitar stand or two.

This one is a vintage ding! (circa 1996)

This baby happened only a year after buying the EVH hardtail pictured here. I placed the guitar on the floor at a rehearsal, tripped on the guitar strap somehow and it whacked into a cymbal stand. With the relic craze in full swing, I expect EBMM to offer this as a standard option.

EVH Hardtail again - this is some of my favourite guitar wear of all time!! - 1000's of gigs have created this scratch 'sheen' that you see before you. To create this on one of those shiny new BFR guitars, some light glasspaper or a Brillo pad would probably do the trick.

Moving down a little lower, we see that again heavy gigging has bought all kinds of beautiful chips to the finish around the jack socket.

And finally! a nice mark on the top of the instrument, caused by it being bruised by a friend wearing a bracelet who I had lent the guitar to at a jam session. I would have preferred it not to happen, but hey! I think its added at least $1000 to the value!

Does anybody know how to prevent the guitar from getting it's butt kicked by a belt bucke?

I hold my guitar pretty high but who knows.

Back on topic, I think the hardest part is getting through the first chip. After that it leads to maturity :)

you could put a large sheet of stick plastic stuff over it, like the barcode sticker stuff that comes on the back of musicmans. or someone invented years ago the axe jacket! dont know if anyone ever bought one! plus not sure if they are available left handed ;)

correction: they arent called axe jackets i just googled them and they are more case like, the things i am thinking of were advertised by Jennifer Batten and where a cover for the back that stretched round so as to just hug the front of the guitar.

Simple solution....lose the belt...bust out the spandex...pretend it's 1984 all over again! :D

:)

Elvis used a leather cover on his Martin.

I have probably the stupidest scratches on the back of my SS.....put there by playng it wearing a jacket embroidered with sequins. Never occurred to me they'd be no good for the paintwork.

Tim.....love the concept of the "vintage ding".....waiting for Fender to offer them as an option on the sandpapered (whoops, sorry, I mean "relic") Strats!!

This is the stupidist ding you ever saw.

When I had the guitar for only about a month or two I decided to change the strings. I must have lost track of one of the old ones and placed the guitar directly on top of the ball end of the string. It somehow left an indentation on the top horn. Rehearsals and gigs... no dings. At home changing the strings... 'doh.

I covered the back of my Les Paul in Masking tape - as that started to wear I just added more.

Then the rest of the guitar started taking a pounding and I eventually took it off - but it worked a treat and protected the back really well from buckle rash

Play w/o pants or at least have them around your ankles till after the gig then pull them up and buckle. If you move arounf alot on stage, jump like a bunny so you don't trip :p

Seriously, if you check out the advertising section of some guitar mags they have what looks to be a rubber pad that attaches I believe to the strap pegs. No adhesive or anything. I'm sure you could also rig one up w/ a mouse pad from your computer desk.

Looks like I need to take a belt sander to my guitars to give them some of that Axilla mojo....:D

Do what I did.

1) Get older.
2) Develop a standard-issue middle-aged gut. :eek::(

(correction: Add sufficient genetically-matched bioelastic gel to your mid-section to prevent your belt buckle from contacting the guitar's finish....)

When we get older we tend go to one of two places.

Texas or Florida.
