Well that does it. |I spent this morning learning some new country licks on my AL and made the decision to spend much needed time to learn this particular genre after watching some Doug Seven footage. This afternoon I decided to mow the grass....yep you know whats coming  The carburettor needing tuning so I taped up the safety bar and fiddled. Without thinking I stuck my left hand underneath to lift the machine up and guess what ? I|took half an inch off my middle finger on my left hand !!! So looks like my guitar playing career is on hold for a while now, but look out |I could be the next Django Reinhardt. |I am due to see a plastic surgeon tomorrow for reconstructive surgery after telling them that playing guitar is my life. Fortunately the end of the finger is still just about attached though the bone has been completely severed so we'll have to wait and see what happens. |Meanwhile I still intend to be at the bash so Smelly we must get together and discuss a way forward lol.

I am really sorry to hear that Kev.. Specially for someone who loves playing guitar or any stringed instrument for that matter..

We hope that the surgeon can figure out a way out of this.. I am sure he will.. With advances in modern medicine, its amazing what all can be done these days..

Good luck!

I wish you the best of luck with the recovery. It can always be worse. My friend's dad recently cut-off his thumb, pointer finger and half of middle finger in a table saw accident.

Thanks for your good wishes Guys. I am lucky enough to be going to the Queen Victoria hospital in East Grinstead which is THE top plastic surgery and burns unit over here in the UK apparently, so I'll have as good a chance as possible. Hopefully I will know more after tomorrow but somehow I will adapt even if only playing chords. I'm glad that I'm employed these days after spending most of my working life as self employed sub contractor ;)

Very sorry to hear this, I've lost half a thumb on my right hand to my motorbike chain. I has taken me 8 months to be able to play again but you do learn to adapt, although if you play your guitar right handed your injury might be a bit more impeding than mine I can't hold a pick that well anymore or pluck guitar strings with the thumb, but I am learning to slap again with whatever I have left, good luck in your recovery.

sorry to hear about the accident. my friend cut the tip of his middle finger off with a saw last fall. it did heal (they reattached the tip..it was hanging off) and he had no plastic surgery...it looks kind of funny, but i bet he could still play guitar if he wanted to. my point is, you should be able to get back into it once all is said and done....good luck to you.

Sorry about the bad news. That is a real bummer but I am glad it was only one finger and not more or even worse, a hand. Hang in there and let the doc do his magic. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Thanks for that Luv, that is really encouraging. His injury sounds very similar so fingers crossed (ha) there is some hope. I don't mind what it looks like so long as I can play eventually. They did tell me that the bone would not rejoin and were more concerned with the repair of the soft tissue. In all fairness to them it was when I told them I played guitar in a band that they decided to refer me to a plastic surgeon instead of just making do with orthopaedic surgery so I remain hopeful. I am truly touched by all your good wishes..thank you so much
