Since I wasn't involved back in 1962 or whenever it happened, is this the sort of reaction that greeted the Fender Jazz after 10 years of P-Bass and no other choice?

Players in general continue to keep the very idea of the J-bass on a way-high pedastle lit by kleig lights and guarded by dangerous angels. This is true even now that about half of those worshippers were not yet born when the Jazz Bass debutted. So I assume the impact it had at it's intoduction was sort of like the "Big Bang". Yeah I know partly it's Jaco, but one guy can't be the whole reason.

Curious to hear from those who really remember the intro of the J-Bass, the first couple years, I suppose .... real curious to hear from any who recall that and who now are also blowed away by the dual PU MMs, Bongos, Rays, whatever. How do the two scenes, 44 years apart, actually compare for impact?

+1 That's kinda how I like to run my SCHp Bongo, too.

+2. I love the sound of the Bongo with the neck pickup solo'd. Or, at least most of the neck pickup on the pan.

Edit: Sorry about bringing the GC thing up again. It wasn't my intention to start off another set of flames or anything.

I gotta give props tp GC here... my 92 SR5 was purchased from there. I got my SVT CL from them (another killer deal). I also got my SVT HLF CL there (on yet another killer deal) ...
I get killer string deals ALL the time from them and they always treat me well. I am reffering to the GC in El Cerrito, TOP NOTCH!!!

I would be dealing with my local mom and pops if it were'nt for them. And I save a TON of money compared to mom and pops!

GO GUITAR CENTER!!

(flaming ensues I'm sure)

Yep. I loved position five on the new dual pickup models. Roll off the treble, add some mids and bass and you've got... TONE! :D
