recently, my band has been on somewhat of a hiatus. the drummer and i started a side project with the guitar player/singer of a band he was in a few years ago. this will likely become more of a side project, but that's another story altogether.
it's heavy stuff we're playing, in the vein of kyuss, etc. it's in good old drop D tuning, and i had been using my P bass, as i was not sure how well my bongo would take to that tuning.
tonight, i dropped the E on the bongo to D, and wouldn't you know it, that thing just KILLS. why i bother keeping anything but a bongo around becomes more of a mystery every day. i am seriously considering unloading all non-EBMM stuff save for one that has sentimental value.
of course, i have not had a chance to use the new SUB in a band setting, i am sure it does just fine as well. i am dying to hear how it sits in a mix, but for some reason i am not sure it would do the whole 'stoner rock' thing too well. of course, time will tell.
yet another love letter to the bongo! hands down, the finest instrument i have ever played! there is nothing a bongo cannot do.
