Ive seen this colour, would look great obviously as a MM body and maybe mirror scratchplate.

Love the blueburst, but I think the mirror would be too much. If you're going to spring for fancy wood, don't distract from it.

Go clear, or plain black IMHO.

Y'know, this whole thing still has me scratching my head. I mean, I can understand wanting a nicer-looking body with contours and maybe some additional sound options via the addition of a second pickup, but you've said you really like the sound the way it is. Unless that body is made of the same wood and has the same cavities in it, you're going to change the sound of the bass. If you change the preamp to accommodate the second pickup you're going to change the sound of the bass a LOT.

What's the fundamental reason for the project? If it's to get a more attractive and comfortable body, then why not keep the sound you like by having one made of poplar and given a nice finish?

If it's to change the sound, then why are you eliminating the possibility of a bass that sounds different...namely the SR5? You've said that money is no object, so you can easily afford to buy a different bass.

Not trying to second-guess you here...just curious.

Im still debating whether to do this or not. I may be buying a SR5 Pickup off oldbluesbassman so i may wait and see what that sounds like. At least if i keep the original body intact, any changes i make that i dont like i can put back.
It would like a nice(er) finish on it than the textured black, especially after seing the Stingray that i ended up buying, which is trans red.
A clear pickgaurd is an option, or no pickgaurd at all, could even get rid of the control placte and have the body rear routed.

Right then. Recently bought a SR5 pickup off Oldbluesbassman, popped it in the SUB5 and WOW, its made a huge difference, amazingly tight low end, especially on the B string and plenty of top end there at hand.
Loved the sound of it before but this is incredible, i would recommend this to anyone with a SUB or SUB5.

Next mod, getting a body made of ash and finished it Trans Red or maybe plain black with a mirror pickguard.
