You're talking about the improved single coil, right? How does it sound compared to the older single coils?

I haven't had a single coil Bongo in many moons and my memory (esp when it comes to tonal differences) is not good. I kind of doubt that if you had them both to A/B, you'd be all falling over and slobbering and twitching about the difference - as far as I remember, Dudley just tweaked 'em up a bit, so the difference is bound to be small.

Nonetheless, I think that I - like many of you - was so initially blown away by the HHs that I just couldn't appreciate the other pickup configs. I'll just say that once you've lived with your dual hummers a while, try a HS config with an open mind.

I've been gassin for a Stingray, but maybe the single H is what I need. Same scale etc.
Bovine, does the single H have a unique tone that cannot be duplicated by a S/H?

The pickup on the single H is rather farther up toward the neck than on the dual pickup models. It barks at you and it's all Bongo.

What Ben said about the barking. And the "all Bongo", too.

I have been so nuts in love with the HS for the last two days that I haven't sat down with that one and the single H and done a side by side comparison.

As far as a Stingray vs a single H Bongo, I just don't know. I can tell you that Ben is happier with a Stingray. I can tell you that Jack is happier with a Bongo. You are just going to have to try them out and see what works for you.

If it were me....no, no, that way lies madness.

I think the single H does indeed have its own voice. Ask the guys who were at Open House about BP's Bongo. Sweet Jesus. I still dream about that bass. Even with me playing it, it sounded wonderful.

If I were a normal person, a single H would be all I'd ever need. But isn't it nice to have the choices we have?

Confusing, too, but then there's always my method - one of each.

could someone tell me if the bongo bridge pickup is in the same position as a stingray? (from the bridge saddles) I love the placement of my sr for a thumbrest. It looks like the single p/u is farther than the dual p/u model.

The dual pickup model Bongo bridge pickup placement is closer to the saddles than the Stingray pickup. The single pickup Bongo has a pickup placement that's closer to where the Stingray's is, perhaps a tiny bit more toward the neck.
