I have a love hate relationship with Sunburst basses. I think they look great but everytime I get one I end up selling it. Then again, I never had a sunburst MM

I love this MM finish. Let's face it, anyone over 35 very likely had a first bass or guitar with this very finish. It is enduring and yet always cool.

Personally I don't like SB. My first bass was black, then a natural so I guess my early preferences are pretty standard. Today I wouldn't buy a natural or black (or SB) unless if was some kind of crazy deal...

IMHO, you can never go wrong with a sunburst finish. I've had a Sting in tobacco, a F*der deluxe fretless and an L2500. All were magnificent finishes. If only the bass were as good as the finish.

Someday, I will own a MM in sunburst.

I've never seen a Sterling in that finish...that's hot!

Probably one of the few times I'd keep a clear pickguard on a bass.

I'm always torn between a sunburst and natural as my next bass but then things like the DD come along and that decision goes by the wayside.:)

Post # 100 by the way.

Is the clear pickguard stock or aftermarket?

I'm 37 and never seen that finish till recently::rolleyes:
fyi, the sunburst finish has been popular in the global market for centuries,
but it's been banned on electric bagpipes until recently due to some long running misunderstandings between British and Scottish bands;
that's what I heard :p

Good, now I won't feel bad about replacing it.
I'll start a new thread when the bass arrives (my first Stingray!).

Lisa, you are so right on. That's the finish that gets me every time, reminds me of a great 64 P-Bass I had in 1970. It's just as beautiful on a SR.

....... and it has to be the burst with the black on the outer edges to have the vintage feel. MM named this one well. Of course all of the bursts are beautiful.
