The neck is excellent, made out of one solid piece of american maple - no joins.
That's much better than the neck on mine. The neck itself wasn't bad, but it had a separate fretboard that was a darker shade of maple. Didn't affect the playability, but it was really ugly.
The neck was the problem. The neck was so fat and awkward it felt like a really cheap toy guitar and made me want to smash it in the street.
Granted, the neck on my OLP didn't even begin to compare with my Axis, but it wasn't nearly that bad. I've heard here that quality was spotty on them, though. Whatever the case, I thought it was a really solid guitar for the money.
And if you know of a place where you can get an Axis for "a few hundred bucks more" than an OLP, please let me in on it. I need to spend some time there.
