Olp Mm22

Hello everyone! I'm new to these forums (Obviously) and I just wanted to ask if anyone here had any pros and cons about the OLP MM22 bass. I know that the OLP basses aren't actually manufactured by Ernie Ball, but the internet is kind of devoid of reviews for this certain model, so I thought it would be a good idea to ask here. I've been playing bass for about 6 years and I wanted to upgrade from my Ibanez Sr200dx. I was thinking about getting the OLP MM22 and replacing the stock pickups with the Seymour Duncan Basslines ones. Any advice you could give me would be very much appreciated!

To me, that suggests not many of them are sold. Usually Harmony Central has plenty of user reviews for most brands, including obscure low volume brands.

Although they are not awful I would strongly suggest looking for a used EBMM SUB. They can be found at great prices and (ihmo) are FAR better than an OLP. Plus no need to even worry about swapping out pickup or pre-amp.

I would think that for the cost of an OLP+Aftermarket PU and Pre = SUB easy...and I know which side of the equation I would prefer.

I´ve had a mm3, i got it just to see if I could get used to the pickup placement of a SR5. The necks are good, but the electronics are crap, and i belive that the bodywoods are crap as well, you really cant get a good tone out of it. And they are very uneven in volume comparing string to string aswell. On the other hand Tony levin used his signature OLP on some song on his Resonator album, so i guess the sound is in your hands anyways. But in my opinion, get a SUB!

ive played the tony levin olp and a mm3.. they dont compare to the real thing at all!
the hardware is skunky to say the least.. the tuners are made of a leaf that is inserted into a slot, and this thing is rattling even if the bass is straight outta the box.
if you hit them into something it will get even worse!
the electronics cant compare.. you can feel that the potensiometers are of low quality. the shafts bends under fairly lil pressure and the glide area must be contaminated with something. they are far from smooth!!
save up and get the real deal... you wont regret it!

I played a tony levin sig olp and i taught it was great for the money,i did not expect it to be the best bass i have ever played but for the money it was great value.however if you plan on going down the road of replacing pick ups then a sub would be the way to go.....now that i think of it i really should have bought the tony levin sig just because it was "funky"

It wouldn't be much of an upgrade if i'm honest. Get a sub, i upgraded from some right **** beginner basses and trust me, i don't regret it.

if you want a stingray get a stingray. a copy is never identical to the original.

Alright thanks for the input everyone! The new two pickup model is pretty new so that's why I was thinking there weren't very many reviews for it. I'll check ebay and my local pawnshops for SUBs.

By the way, I don't consider an OLP an upgrade from an Ibanez. I'd take even the lowest level Ibanez over an OLP anyday.

I have an OLP MM22. It's my first bass and even I can tell it isn't quality. The electronics suck and the whole thing rattles badly! It's in perfect condition and it sounds almost as poor as a First Act instrument. If you know anything about First Act, it's that it's the last brand you want to buy. Just save up and get the real deal.
