So I finally collected my Classic Collection Stingray 4 yesterday from Nigel at Strings and Things (thanks also to Terry at Absolute Music). This thing is the bass of my dreams. Weight is 9.8lbs, coral red, with a crazy figured birds eye maple neck.
I took it to a jam session last night - the first time I've used an MM 2 band EQ for nearly 25 yrs - and what an EQ - sizzling top end, seemingly endless low end - and if you roll the tone controls off the mids seem to boost. I played White Room and Sunshine of your love (Cream), some Be Bop Deluxe but the highlight was playing Chamelion by Herbie Hancock - which I played as a slapped line - OMG the 2 band EQ for slap is great. Lot's of very positive comments (as well as the obligatory - why have you bought a pink bass - yes it looks pink in some lights, but red in others).
One of the guys at the jam session is a guitar collector and he was bowled over by the Ray - said it's the most gorgeous looking bass he's seen.
Anyway thanks to Big Poppa and Dargin for creating these beauties (the workmanship is fantastic - it's flawless), and also to Nigel at Strings and Things and Terry at Absolute Music for looking after the purchase in such a great, customer focussed way. Every bass player should have one of these, they really are the works.
Oh I almost forgot, before anyone else says it - I know this bass doesn't exist
well it will at the week end when I post the pics (can't download them at the moment).
