BINGO BONGO!

Thank you all for your kind suggestions and contributions. Highly appreciated!!

Well...here it is:
View attachment 28313 View attachment 28314

It's pretty beat up/roadworn, but luckily no dings on the neck.
The painted neck feels indeed pretty smooth like some of you already pointed out.

These pictures are from the advertisement. Will post new ones tomorrow at daylight.

600 euro's (660 USD)... a steal!

Congrats! Great deal! I got my 5H for 900 and it is in mint condition. Couldn't believe it at the time. You'll love this beast!

Have you tried a gamechanger, you said you wanted different tones.

Congrats, that is a steal of a price, that's less than £500!!!! wow bargin !!
Seeing as it already has some miles on it, it wont hurt as much if you decide to refinish the neck for an oli & wax finish.
If ever you decide you want to part with it let me know !! :D

@ nurnay, Thanks

@ five7, Appreciating the suggestion. I think the Bongo also has a sound I did not have

@ danny-79, Thanks, actually only £425. Considering a complete refin, but that means also losing all the decals.

@ djaxup, danke shon! we'll see :)

Appreciate your comment!

Don't you think the Sterling HH will be very similar to my Sabre? I haven't played a Sterling yet, so I can't tell.
I am looking for a Musicmansound I don't already have.

I haven't tried the Sabre so its hard for me to know. If you think they are close then the Bongo is obviously what you're looking for. That thing is thick mid heavy while the Big Al is mid scooped to my ears, the Sterling being aggressive mid grind heavy.

Congrats on the great find. That is a great deal!! And, for the record, that's what I would have recommended. I often try to stay out of these discussions because it's hard for me to not be biased. I just love the Bongo H!! :) And, as usual, I recommend to go out and get some Cobalt strings for that baby (or try some flats as they too are great on the Bongo).

Enjoy.

Why not both :) the cobalt flats are great, love them on my 4HH Bongo.

Thanks guys. Have already placed an order for the Cobalts.

Question: Like I said, the bass is pretty beat up.

There's not much I can do about the scratches on the body and headstock.

The previous owner painted the control-knobs..don't ask...all 4!
Also a couple of tuner-mounting-screws are missing.

Where can I get/order replacements? Ernie Ball?Suggestions?

I say try a Bongo with an unpainted neck. I have had I think 6 Bongo's now and the two that I have kept are my all rosewood neck and my bfr roasted neck. I hate painted necks and that is the only thing that kills me about standard production Bongo's.

+1 What JayDawg said...

The feel of the all-rosewood neck on my 5HH is totally unlike that of a painted neck. Smooth and supple, it seems to melt into my left hand. The tone is a bit less aggressive overall to my ears. Making the room go boom usually involves just a tweak of the blend knob and low mids.
