I've been thinking about getting a POD XT, I sold my Line6 Spider 2 1x12.

I saw that EBMM had what looks like M-Audio, Guitar BlackBox. I'm wondering what people thought of them and/or is anyone out there owns one and what they think?

I have owned POD, POD XT, POD PRO, and I love the amount of sound you can get with them they are very versatile. Unfortunatelly I thougth they sounded sterile, for lack of a better word.

The Black Box I did not think sounded as good as the POD XT, but you know I was just so dang happy to be playing some of these new guitars that I did not really concentrate on the sound I was getting.

I am really into tube amps now and wanted something that I could use for direct recording without breaking the bank. The one processor I found that I like was the Vox Tone Lab. It has a bit more dynamics than the any of my PODs use to. It does not have as many models as the POD XT. but I really liked the way it sounded.

I hope this helps some.

The PodXT is a great little unit for practicing and esp for recording- the USB out is invaluable.

I've had mine for a few years but have to admit these days I don't play it much (thank you Guytron).

Glenn- shameless plug here. If you decide you want to go the Pod route, give me a holler as I'm probly going to sell mine soon.

Hey Glenn,

It's me, Fred the gear whore... One thought. Think about it before you jump. C'mon you've watched me over the past few years. I've bought and sold more gear than I care to imagine and wound up getting the Mesa before Christmas. I wish I had done something like that a few years ago and saved myself a lot of time, trouble and money...

Let's take a look shall we?

PodXt - Sold it
Vox Tonelab - Sold it
Roland MicroCube - Still have it
Roland Cube 60 - Sold it
Tech 21 TM60 - Sold it
Korg - Pandora PX3 - Sold it
Pod XT Pro - Sold it
Songworks Little Lanilei - Sold it

The only one of the bunch worth keeping for me was the MicroCube. Since getting the Ace I haven't looked back.

Save up your money and save your sanity. Play a bunch of tube amps and when you hit that chord that makes the hair on your arms stand up, buy it.

They have amps now that have master volume controls so you can get real nice tone at bedroom levels, or you can buy a THD Hotplate. I can play my Ace in the front room while the family is in the next watchng TV. Gain out the wazoo or sparkly cleans, they don't hear it.

Just food for thought boss... Been there played and sold that.

Fred,

I'm so glad you posted this!!!
I may not have my EBMM just yet but I do have an amp that I bought on a whim when I was shopping guitar brands. The amp sucks and don't plan to keep it. Though I was wondering if I should buy effects or Tonelab or something. I know I love the tube amps (since that's what I was trying out EBMMs with in the stores) but don't need a 100Watt amp for my little room. I don't see myself jamming that much. I'm also glad to hear your comments on the MESA. It sounds perfect!!!
What kinds of music are you playing through the Stiletto Ace? I've never tried one so am wondering how versatile the sounds are.

Foggy many of these amps can go from 100watts down to 25 watts and have interchangable tubes...

I have last year's MESA catalogue which is pretty good for details.
It's just nice to get personal feedback on them.
Especially considering they're not the cheapest things in the world!!!!

Fred, yah I remember you telling me about every amp you got and then me asking when I saw you were selling it. You really like the Mesa huh? Kim must love yah man those are some serious cash, way more than I have.

Is this the one that you have?

I'm a digital kind of guy, I love the Little Lanilei it work perfect for the arrangment that I have, but it's still too gainy for me. I like cleab, I've been using my Korg PX4 for the most part and it's doing the trick. When I saw that EBMM had switched from the Korg Pandora's to the M-Audio BlackBox, I was interested. Also for me space is a huge factor, small house and no storage.

Thanx for the inputs. Glenn |B)

+1. I have used most of the POD stuff on some occasion, all stuff that other people have owned. I just don't like the LACK of versatility in the EQ knobs. I still question if they are hooked up to anything.

I'd highly recommend not going with Line 6 gear and try the Tech 21 stuff. That's my 2 cents.

Glenn why not try the Boss GT-6 or GT-8? I could send you some audio clips if you like? I use one and it's great... You can kind of see it here

Thanx Colin, looks a lot like the Floor POD XT. Does it have a headphone jack?

By the way who's the blonde?

I use a Keeley DS1 into a PODxt LIVE acting as a preamp, and direct into my recording card. Adds alot more dynamics and warmth.

I use the POD sorta like a checklist... As I get more analogue stuff for my pedalboard, I'll turn more effects off in the POD as I have one external one connected to it. So, the more stuff I get, the less effects in the POD I need. But I still need it as a preamp for recording though.
