I am thinking of buying this as my first Music Man. I am in talks with the seller. Any opinions would be welcomed. Is it good value?

That appears to be a rosewood neck BFR as opposed to a BFR. That means it does not have the mahogany tone block, to the best of my knowledge.

It looks familiar? For me it's a couple hundred too much.

If you like the look of it I would recommend it....though since it didn't attract any bids at that price Browndog is probably right. For safety's sake, unless you can go & pick it up....I would suggest agreeing a price & getting him to relist it quickly on EBay with a Buy It Now

Walk into any Guitar Center that has one in stock and pay close to what his minimum bid is for a brand new one.

Here was the deal - EBMM did a "limited order window" toward the end of 2008 where you could order any EBMM model with the solid rosewood neck. Prior to that window there was a "rosewood option" for the Axis and Axis Super Sports that gave you the solid rosewood neck and a rosewoood top (instead of the figured maple top). Right before EBMM discontinued the Axis Rosewood models they offered that order window. Every EBMM ordered with the solid rosewood neck during that order window had the "BFR" logo on the neck. Essentially you could order either a regular model with the "BFR rosewood neck" or you could order any BFR model with the "BFR rosewood neck" kind of making those particular guitars "double BFRs".

The rosewood neck guitars would have the standard specs for that model - for example a BFR guitar that had the "BFR rosewood neck" would have the BFR brown tolex G&G case, the tone block in the body, etc. A regular model would have the regular body and the regular molded case. It appears the guitar in the auction had the regular case. You would need the serial number to verify if it was a BFR Axis SS with the BFR rosewood neck or if it was a regular Axis SS with the BFR rosewood neck.

I know - it's about clear as mud.

Oh - and I agree that price is a bit high assuming it is an Axis SS with the BFR rosewood neck; seems pretty close to the new price to me.

Well to me that was not neither here nor there, or should I say it was on the mark and you were not getting the greatest of deals. Be a bit patient and you will do much better, you just missed out on 4 great deals by Slav.

I hate when people misrepresent what they are selling. It makes you start questioning everything they tell you.

I was too late for Slavs guitars. I found this forum when I was looking to buy an EVH from Ebay Australia. When I looked at the for sale section I saw Slavs guitars. Did some research, came back and they were sold.

Now I know what I want, it is just a matter of holding off until I find it.

Thanks guys; you know now I'm not so sure when that "window" where you could order any EBMM with a solid rosewood neck occurred in 2008 - it might have been more like around the Summer NAMM show? Maybe Pete Dubaldo or someone else will chime in on that.

I do know that before that "BFR rosewood neck" window opened the Axis/Axis SS Rosewoods (the ones with the solid rosewood neck and the rosewood top instead of a maple top) had normal EBMM dot inlays; all the ones ordered from the time the "BFR rosewood neck" window opened until they were discontinued in December 2008 carried the "BFR" 12th fret logo even though they had the "standard" Axis body (basswood for the humbucker models, ash for the MM-90 models) without the tone block underneath that rosewood top.

I picked up one of the last of the Axis SS Rosewoods (an MM-90s model) here on the forum last December. That particular Axis SS was "born" in February 2009 and it did have the BFR logo on the neck. Great guitar; loved the rosewood neck, but just couldn't get used to playing the slab body so I sold it to another forumite a couple of months ago.

Well the sellers silence has answered the question of whether it was a proper BFR or not. I asked for the serial number and if it came with a certificate. They were Johnny on the spot with previous questions and now nothing.

I should have mentioned that all the EBMMs with the "BFR rosewood neck" will have the BFR certificate - that Axis SS I had did have the certificate showing it was a BFR (again, because of the rosewood neck being a BFR even though the Axis SS Rosewood was a regular production item prior to the "BFR Rosewood NecK" window).
