Question Original pick guard/pups... How can I tell?

Hi all...

I have done a thread search and can't find the answer so was hoping someone out there in EBMM land can assist.

I have recently aquired a 1989 Silo...



She is in mint condition which is awesome but a 22 year old silo with some left over plastic still under the screws on the pickguard makes me wonder if it's all original.

The neck and bridge pups appear to have yellowed a little with age but the guard , switch and knobs are still perfectly white, so is the middle single coil.

Normally I'd be suspect straight away but the rest of it is mint, including original bridge etc... and the only dirt was the green frets from lack of use.

My question is... How can I tell if the pickguard and pups are original?

I'm sure there is a way.

Also on the subject... will a new 5 bolter Silo guard fit my old 6 bolter? (No of bolts in neck plate)

Interesting ... I don't know how you'd tell, except to take it off and have a look underneath. The p'ups will have model #s you can match to what MM says should be in there.

As for the p/g, the customer service guys should be able to let you know. As far as I know, most guards fit most models. But, for example, the guard on the Albert Lee has changed slightly. So worth asking.

I took your advice and emailed EBMM again today. The guys there I've been dealing with (Billy in particular) have all been really great so hopfully they'll dig up an answer for me.

I sent them the following pics... and others. So should have an answer in the near future. I'll post the results for those interested.



As for the Model or Serial number on the pups I couldn't find them.

Excellent, please do. Fwiw, to me it looks like the wiring job came from the factory. So I'd guess that's all original.

Yeah mate, from what I understand (and I may be corrected by someone who knows more than me) but there were a few different bridges around this era.

Mine has the Music Man vintage bridge with factory roller saddles (very cool indeed).

I used to have a '93 Silhouette, from what I recall it had a sticker with the production date on the backside of the pickguard. Which of course doesn't mean that yours is not original, it surely looks to be original to me!

To be honest it looks like everything is correct though I understand what you are saying about the single coil as it usually should have yellowed evenly with the neck and bridge pups. If anything I would guess the middle pup and pick guard and knobs may have been changed at onetime, then again lets see what CS says as the guitar is super clean for 22 years of age.

Nice Silo! The pickups sure look like those that I have from a Silo Spec. CS will tell you for sure, those guys are the best.
