if you read up on the vintage guitar page it clearly says that it has serial b001000 :)

if i had 10 grand... the bass would have a new owner :)

i thought the first 6 basses and guitars was given as a pair to the sales team. perhaps someone in the know would update this info if its not correct.

hehe.. found this thing i posted a long time ago :)

The text in the image is obviously wrong, as the proto 3 was made in 1976. I think this bass is the first production one made (Gav?) but it was made mid-76. Or so I think.

Must be before mid -76. I had a Inca Silver Ray from -76 many years ago and the neck and the body was made in march/april -76. Or if it was april/may. Don´t remember exactly. A friend had found another Stingray from -76 for sale and she asked me to come along and look at it. It turned out that bass was made nearly exactly at the same time as mine. The serial no´s on the neck was the no just after the neck on my bass. She bought the bass. We often talked about how cool it was that our Stingray necks had been neighbors on the shelf at the Musicman factory back in -76. I think the necks were made in april -76. Or perhaps may. But no later than that. I must phone her and ask. She still has her bass. Mine was stolen. :(

I have pics of the Sting Ray Guitar G001000 if you want them posted.

+1 - yes please.

It's correct but the pairs started from B001001 (Bass) and G001001 (Guitar)

Gav - do you know if the artists you see in videos of the mid 70s period (eg Eric Clapton - rythmn guitar and bass players both with white pick up natural Rays - all the guitar amps also MM; Alan Gorrie - Average White Band - white pick up natural Ray bass) were lent the guitars from these sets by the relevant salesmen or were they extra instruments (seemingly pre production ones) provided direct to artists?

Jan. Are you sure about 1976. I was under the impression that Inca Silver wasn't available until 1977 ??

Back in 1976 and 77 white pickups and white pickguards were an option to black.

P.S. I don't know what the salesmen did with them.

Dear all,

I just wanted to confirm you that the Stingray #001000 is indeed the very first production model of the Stingray, and it is no longer in GC Hollywood. It has found a new home in the Netherlands where it will be used only for studio recording purposes and to stay as a family relic. As soon as I record something with it (direct through an LA610) I will post it.

Have a nice day,

Borja

Hey there. Do you happen to still have these pics of B001000? With this being the 40th Anniversary of the StingRay bass we're pulling together assets. If so, can you send them to [email protected] ?

Thanks!
