Did you miss me? :p

I'm back from Negril, Jamaica. I got back Saturday, but am just now going over the posts. Ivan was pretty hard on the vegetation on the island, but everything else looked pretty good where I was. Looks like I've got a lot of catching up to do! A lot goes on here in a week.

Did you get to see much in the way of local music over there?
 
Stayed in the resort mostly. They had a good house band and several entertainers came through the week. I've been to Jamaica over twenty times (lost count). The first time I was there Reggae Sunsplash was going on the beach next to our resort in Mobay. We would sit on the pier and listen every night. Peter Tosh was still alive then and he was one of the performers there. I've met some awesome bass players in Jamaica over the years though.

I can imagine.

I went through a phase a few years back of listening to very little other than dub reggae (it seemed appropriate for the moment, I won't go into the other habits I had at the time :))

Some stunning basswork... much of it uncredited. Aston Familyman Barrett is amazing, obviously for his work with the Wailers, but also for the stuff with the Upsetters and others. My personal favourite is King Tubbys prophesy of Dub by Yabby U.
 
My favorite Dub bassist is definitly Robbie Shakespeare. He may even be my favorite player to listen to. His lines are very melodic. :)
