Hey guys, I know this is OT...

Anyway, I bought a Peterson Strobostomp today, and I'll be using it tonight at band practice. I'll let you know if I can hear a difference in my tuning.

I have a VS1 and I love it - I used to spend a lot more time "tweaking" my tuning when practicing before I bought it. I use the guitar-biased setting for tuning up, and straight mode for setting intonation and the like... If I'm not mistaken, the "sweet" mode just drops the low E and G strings a couple cents, but it works to my ears...

Well guys, the Strobostomp is a cool little box, let me tell ya. Really nice. It will take some getting used to because it's a different visual reference for me (having a digital strobe display versus some sort of arrow scheme). But things sounded great all night with my tuning. I'll have to try the guitar sweetened tuning. I just used it as-is out of the box.

It's got presets for Buzz Feiten equipped basses and 6 and 12 string guitars. Plus you can create your own tunings and save them. The display is nicely backlit, it doubles as an active DI box if you have such a need, and it just plain looks cool. Even my drummer ventured over to gaze at it before commenting that it looked like a video game. :p

You guys have me intrigued. I'm a freak about tuning. When I hear anything little out of tune, I cringe. As Monk says, it's a gift, and a curse. I think I'm gonna invest in one of these sophistamacated doo-wackies.

i used a korg rackmount for years......great for tunning from a distance.....but i still had to turn my back to the crowd to tune. the peterson is bright enough to see on the floor...up by my mike stand...& still watch out for chicks...and flying objects...... :D ......and yes it's very tough. also .i'm able to tune quicker w/ the strobe indicator.

Rush,

Man, I can't believe you painted that pedal! IMHO the original finish was pretty sleek looking, and definitely made the pedal stand out. I don't think I've ever thought twice about the color of a stompbox, but hey.. to each their own!

id get a strobostomp. but im not much into the whole pedal thing. if i was to do it id go all out and buy a pedal board and load it with effects and get one or the korg one. but my main question is, is a dtr-1000 as accurate as a peterson?

That blue just stood out like a sore thumb on my pedalboard. As far as accuracy, it'll blow away the Korg and any other rackmount/pedal tuner in more ways than one.

Steve, you will find once you have set the bass to pitch you will no longer have to look at anything but the movement of the bars. Faster movement equals further out of tune, slower is closer to in tune. bars going up are sharp, down flat
It is a no brainer...bars ever so slightly moving you will find it to be pretty decently tuned. Also, intonation with the Peterson Strobe is really easy. Once you have tuned the open string to pitch you can fret the 12th, 19th, 5th, anywhere really and just pay attention to bar movement. Should be dead still. Don't need to look at what letter is showing.
