Moderators, feel free to delete this, since it's about the Dark Side.

Just saw an ad on the Travel Channel about John Ratzenberger's Made in America series (JR is from MY TOWN, yay).

Tomorrow at 9 pm (eastern) one of the factories that will be on the show is the F*n*e* plant. Which one they do not say, but presumably it's the US plant (duh).

I guar-on-tee they won't mention that most F*n*e*s are made overseas and in Mexico. In fact, I'd be willing to lay odds that they won't even hint that there are F*n*e*-branded guitars built outside the US.

Be that as it may, it's probably going to be worth watching. Open House attendees, I'd love it if you could check it out and tell us how it compares to the ops at SLO.

Cool! Warmoth, up there in Puyallup WA. has needed alot more exposure than they get.

i don't like fenders, infact compared to MM they are garbage. But the those that I have played made outside of the US have been far superior than those built in the US. Very strange.

Tivo'ed this and watched it this morning. The part of it that really got me going was the visit to the vintage custom shop, or whatever they call it. They showed somebody taking a Surform file to a brand-new, painted J bass body to "age" it.

Now, THAT'S a load of dingo's kidneys if ever I saw one.

I did like the overhead drying/storage conveyor system. It's kind of like those things you see at dry cleaners...serpentine tracks that cover the entire upper bay of the factory, with guitar bodies hanging from them. Makes good sense...logical use of space.

As expected, they didn't mention any overseas operations. At least they did specify that the factory manufactures F*n*e*'s "American" guitars.

They showed the little old lady who hand-winds pickups and has since forever. She's been doing it so long she's got grooves worn in her fingers!

Yeah, that's kind of what they sound like. I was having a hard time putting my finger on it....

I forget that lady's name at the moment but she's been there since Leo and she's quite a legend.

I, of course, meant no disrespect and I know she winds some pretty nice pickups. It was just a slow pitch right over the plate, and it's always fun taking cheap shots at the little f
