IMO, the RHCP's lost their edge after Under the Bridge. I think you will be safe in the pit :)

One word.........

......Craziest i've ever seen or been in. I wouldn't worry too much about the RHCP. Should be pretty mellow......

second concert i was ever at was slayer w/ machinehead opening up. it was insane and i was up in the front ... a scrawny, short, 15 year old phatty.

my friend caught the machinehead drummer's drum stick at the end of their set and some crazy girl put a cigarette out on the back of his neck to get him to drop it.

and ya, slayer was over the top insane... RHCP should be a non issue.

Randy - did you ever get a chance to catch a Nerve Agents show? i saw Tiger Army open up for them and before the last Tiger Army song the singer, Nick 13, announced "i hope you folks in the front have your hockey masks handy cuz the Nerve Agents are on next and you know how that gets". Those pits were insane! i have honestly NEVER seen so many people upside down (literally). pure chaos. flinging mic's into the crowd - ya, they broke. just crazy

After they released that song? Do you mean Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic?

Well, IMO, they tasted a bit of comercial success with Under the Bridge (the song), and they have been on a quest to recreate that since.

I'm a chick who is 5'2" and has been in many moshpits more violent than the Peppers. Metallica, Slayer, Ministry, Suicidal Tendencies, etc. ( I was a hellion lol) Pepper fans tend to be a bit more hippyish so more mellow. Go for it. The best thing to do is stand at the edge of the pit where ya just push the participants back in. If you're short you can see the stage perfectly. Nice clear field of vision except for the occasional body flying across. :)

prodigy is probably the most hardcore mosh I have been in.... perhaps a few hardcorey gigs as well..

generally yeah aussie pits are pretty ferocious... but there is a bit of a mentality where if someone goes down other people will pick them up.... standing on the edges you just have to watch out for all the bogans running past trying to get into the mosh... these idiots have no respect for anyone but themselves... I regularly 'accidentally' elbow with intent to injure anyone who doesn't respect smaller people (ie my girlfriend or any of my female friends) that aren't actually in the mosh...

General rule is if you go in, prepared to be shoved around a bit... don't get narky at anyone because you are in mosh territory...unless of course they are being complete dickheads.

but most of all have fun :)

There's one band I went to see a while back (won't mention the name); the pits were actually quite hectic. I had a 200 lb. guy get hurled over the pit by a few of his friends and he went head first into my temple. Needless to say, lights out for stanky. I woke up about 10 minutes later, had a sip of water, and was back at it. If my scrawny ass can take that, you can take a Chilli Peppers concert. :p

dude, cheat, steal, clober your way to the front of that show! Saw them thursday in San Francisco. My first time ever and i was blown away! The best live stadium thing i've ever seen! flea's live bass sound is sick as hell. I've started changing my tone in its influence already.

Motorhead was the last pit I was in... that was the one when I got socked in the nose and shoved down the hill at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA (since renamed to some corporate sponsor).

However, I'm surprised to hear an 18-year-old concerned about a mosh pit. C'mon, you can handle it! :D

P.S. From my experience, American crowds are the worst. Never been in a strictly Aussie crowd, though.

i also have kind of a slimmer build but i went to the most pit this summer for ozzfest with all the drugged up death people and people were smashing their skulls into each others and it was nuts but even at ozzfest if you stand in the very front or on the sides there where places where people were just standing watchin the show, i also went to the portland and seattle red hot chili peppers shows on aug 11th and 12th and they ROCKED SOOO MUCH! like they were awesome best concerts ive EVER been to. but people werent really smashin into each other or anything they were just standing there and head bangin n dancein n singin havein a great time, as im positive you will. oh also i had floor tickets to them. so i wouldnt worry about it, just worry about taking it all in, its very emotional and very very awesome. emotional for me because i love flea and he started me playing bass and to see you idol, hero, person i look up to, in the flesh (in a pink jump suit hahha i love him) it was very emotional for me and i just rocked out the whole time and i took it all in, i love the red hot chili peppers! have an awesome time at the show, and also dont worry about what people think of you when you dance and head bang and stuff, thats dumb, just have a good time, i saw bunch of people just standing there like they were bored outta their mind or somethin, concerts are ment to have fun and go nuts so do it! again you will love it and im sure you will have a 100% awesome time.

My first real concert was Jethro Tull and Ian Anderson bopped me on the head with a tamborine.

I think my afro inflamed him.

I was okay, though, no need to worry.

I saw the chili peppers at the Bowery Ballroom in NY, right before Californication came out. General admission, I got there early, was like the 5th person in the door, and immediately planted myself up against the left side of the stage. I was somewhat concerned (don't like pits) but didn't really care cuz it was the RHCP. Before they came on one of the huge bouncer guys with leather gloves and steel knuckles took the spot right next to me. I said, "Cool, at least I feel safe now." He said, "Why? If I have to get to anyone I'm gonna walk on top of you to get to them." He wasn't kidding, and moved away 5 minutes later. Guess he may have felt bad for me cuz I got scared.

Opening bands all was fine. When the chili peppers were coming out everyone around me warned me to lock my arms out against the stage. Cool. Stretched my arms, with my girl andrea between them, they came on stage and damn! 500 people on my back. I freaked for about a minute, then kind of dug it once I realized there was a space under the stage I could escape into if need be. The bouncers up close kept the things safe where I was. The pit started about 10 feet behind me, so I wasn't affected by anything except the pressure of the crowd.

For the most part chili pepper fans (here at least) are older people who know how to mosh. It's the newer hardcore shows that get dangerous cuz it's the idiot kids that just want to hurt people, that hurt people. Those who have been around a while have consideration for the people around them that don't want to participate. I think you'll be fine. If you're worried just get as close to the stage as possible, or stay around the edge of the crowd so you can easily escape if ya don't like what's going on.

hey guys,

i am rly excited because my favourite band of all time, the red hot chili pepeprs are coming back to australia for the first time since 2002, and now im 18 so i can see it :D

but i have a dilema. I rly rly rly rly rly want to buy tickets for the chili bowl (the mosh pit area at the front of the stage) but i have been told by some people that a mosh at a chili peppers could get pretty wild and that i might have trouble holding my own because i am of a very slim build.

so i would love any your advice on the matter. if any of you have experience with such things at chili peppers concerts or other concerts and could give me advice as to what tickets i should buy (mosh pit or seated) then i would very much appreciate it.

hey cat_empire, i just got a chili bowl ticket for brissie and im just going to stand at the back of the bowl area, last time over in perth i was in the middle of the bowl and got my glasses torn off, so just back off a few rows and enjoy!
