Thanks guys...

I will be strapped into a "Continuous Passive Motion" machine for 6-8 hours a day for a while.

Loading up on DVD's and books to stay sane - and keeping the laptop at my side. :)

The Woman's Side

In the early 90s, a lifelong friend of mine (and right fine guitarist) met his "Waterloo" in a motorcycle accident. I called the hospital after he regained consciousness, and he told me his arms were working okay, he could breathe and so on, but that the legs appeared to be non-operational. He would be spending the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

I said, "Okay, but your arms....you can still play guitar?"

He said, "Yeah, yeah, I'm getting Dale to bring me an acoustic later today."

In the background, I can hear his wife screaming, "Who cares? Why does EVERYONE ask if you can still play GUITAR?"

Well, because it MATTERS, woman.

Apparently, that was the first question all his musican friends had and it was making her insane.

He's still playing, by the way. She's long gone.

Jack

If Stanky was in this situation, I know his phone would be tearin up with calls of how he is and if he could still play bass. Quite honestly, I'd go insane like the woman. Who cares at a time like this? Okay...I'm a little more understanding of y'all than that, but I would at least want you to wait until either the day after the accident, or until he got out of the hospital! Call it crazy or misunderstanding if you want...I call it maternal instinct!

I hope all goes well for your surgery Anthony! I'm sure it will. I read about this stuff everyday and with a little physical therapy, you'll be up and going in no time at all.

Thanks so much...

Hospital action yesterday was terrific - everything - can't complain about a thing!

Doc said the procedure went "perfectly" and I have some internal pictures of the before and after ACL.

The only "uncomfortable" part of the experience was the IV - and it was nothing more than a pin-prick. Everything else was cake. And the nursing staff was awesome. Pre-op, recovery and post-op I was well taken care of.

Following surgery I received a neuro-block (?) which effectively kept any pain away, save for some mild discomfort for the first 12 hours following the operation.

I think it's wearing off, though!

Glad it went well. Take it easy and get all the way back to as normal as a bass player can be. :D

Thanks for the good vibes guys! I certainly appreciate having y'all around to keep me company.

I'm not the type to ask "why" these things happen. Life throws this stuff at us and we deal with it; it's all part of our life experience.

At the moment I am in a very "happy place". :D My wife and kids have been super supportive and for the moment, things are under control and progressing as best as one can expect. I truly hope to be the "poster boy" for ACL recovery and will be following the Surgeon and Therapist instructions to the letter.

First gig on the calendar for this season is in July, so no impact there. And the Bongo I just ordered is already 2/3 paid-up.

Life is good! :)

All the best for a speedy recovery!

I broke an ACL in my right knee in 1979 - tequila and tackle football. The technology/process is so much better these days. Back then, reconstruction was a very extensive surgery relative to today.

Because my ACL is gone, it has been reinjured several times over the years ... and the joint basically disintegrates over time based on wear/tear/movement. My next step is knee replacement.

You did the right thing ... fixing it right away is the best strategy.
