Mel Brooks discussed this on the director's commentary. He hired an actor who was an alcoholic to make the role more realistic. I guess the guy went into DT's or something on the first day of filming and Mel realized the idea wasn't that great. Could you imagine Blazing Saddles without Gene Wilder. Even worse, could you imagine that movie without Clevon... :(

My favorite Mel Brooks story about Blazing Saddles was from an interview I read with him many years ago. He was talking about the scene when Cleavon Little visits Madeline Kahn (also RIP :( ) in her dressing room. At the end of that scene, she asks him something like "Is it twue what they say about how you people are 'gifted'?" Then the lights go out, and you hear a zipper being opened, and she says "It's twue! It's twue!" And the scene ends.

Mel Brooks said that when they initially wrote that scene, it ended with Cleavon saying "Excuse me ma'am, but you're sucking on my arm." :D The censors made him cut it.

Not seen any Bad News stuff for years!

Did you ever see Bottom (or maybe the movie, Guest House Paradiso)?

Jeez...talk about short attention span thread. :D

I believe the phrase was, "Baby, that's my arm you're suckin' on." :eek:

Duran Duran was awesome at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. Lots of mid-30s hotties runnin' around.

Odd-- You kow the rule* It wasn't a gig unless you tell us which Bongo you played.

* Okay, it's a new rule...

Okay, I thought I was familiar w/British comedy, but ya'll got me there...
:confused:

I'm familiar with the Young Ones, but I've never heard of "Bad News"
Bad News started as a skit on the YO's, then turned into a short film (Bad News Tour). They followed up with another short film called "More Bad News", which culminated with BN playing to the Castle Donnington crowd (1988). That had cameos from Def Leppard, Ozzy, Scorpions, Lemmy, and some others (I think).

It blows away Spinal Tap (IMO), and I love Spinal Tap!

I own the VHS of it, but can't watch it as I've progressed to DVD quite some time ago. I'd love to make a transfer over to DVD, if possible.
