OT-For All The GK Players

My guitarist recently fell in love with a 50 watt Orange tube combo, unfortunately it costs $2000. Thats a damn lot for a 50 watt combo, but im sure its loud as hell with the tubes.

OK, I'm revivng this thread from last week. I just made a deal to buy a GK rig. I'll pick it up this weekend. 1001RB, 212Neo and 115Neo. Here's a pic that was posted over on the TB forum. The owner lives about 5 miles from me.

It comes just as you're seeing it with the power conditioner and the rack case.

Thanks guys. I think it's going to be a match made in heaven. I can just take the 212 with me for smaller gigs and gigs that have large FOH support and add the 115 when I need a little extra. Two things that really sold me on the head are the mute button and the DI controls. I also like how light the cabs are. My back will appreciate it when I'm loading and unloading them at home by myself. I only played two gigs with the 31012 Schroeder and I really struggled loading and unloading that cab by myself.

The guitar player in one my bands has one of those.Sounds alright but I think his Triple Rectifier sounds better.

Larry I still gig with my Neo212 and 115. I tried a EBMM HD-500, an Eden WT330, and am going to snag a GK Fusion 550 when they come out. 1001RB-II until then.

Thanks Ritch but Travis probably has a big head start on me with the 115.

Travis, I may have to get with you on the functions of this head after I get it. There's lots of knobs and buttons on it and I'm not sure I know what some of them do. I might need to quiz you on some of them to get the maximum out of it.

Larry, Pm me or email me if you have any questions about the 1001. Dont hesiatate. Im not a manual reader, I know, its stupid. However, the manual that comes with the 1001 is great at explaining all the cool features or the amp, and theres a ton of em. I bleeb you can even download one from the GK site.

Larry, I hope you don't mind me jumping in with a little info/advice.

One thing that I think is important that you should know about before you start tweaking is the "contour" knob. It is flat when it is all the way off, then when you turn it up it scoops the tone by lowering mids and bumping highs and lows simultaneously. I have seen guys bitch about how they can't get a good tone out of that amp since it's too scooped while running the contour in the mid position - it's an easy trap to fall into.

I recommend that you start with the contour and presence off, and the EQ controls in the middle to start off. These are very powerful controls and just a dab'll do ya.

Also, the cabinets and amp are able to be run in GKs proprietary bi-amp set-up. You have to run specially wired Speakon connectors to do it - hopefully they will be included in your purchase. When you do run it this way, make sure that the switches at the back of the cabs are selected to "bi-amp" not "full range". When run in the bi-amp mode, both the "woofer" and "tweeter" volume controls work - the woofer controls the 700 watt amp that is run to the big speakers, and the tweeter contols the 50 watt amp that is sent only to the tweeters. It's a really nice feature that helps to make this a very versatile set-up.

You mean GK's proprietary bi-amp that isn't proprietary at all? The one that runs bone, dead, stock four wire speakon cables that are the industry standard for things like monitors and such?

Sorry for being snide, but I don't for the life of me know why folks consider this proprietary - since the pro sound industry has been doing things this way since pretty much the day the speakon was released . . . since that's what four pole speakons were designed for . . .

At any rate, Larry, if you can't find cables to bi-amp and want to, PM me. I can make 'em in about 10 minutes for under $10 each . . .

This rig is coming with the bi-amp cables. Also, I did try out the rig with the contour knob completely clocked to the left. I tried it with everything flat as a matter of fact. I even took my Bongo with me.

I'm not much of a manual reader either. There's no telling how much value I've lost on products I've bought because of that though. Before I bug you Travis, I'll try to make myself look in the manual for the info though.

Thanks Larry... sorry Travis, totally forgot you have the 115 (I've been fixated on the whole 212 thing - and I knew you had one it just slipped, must be an age thing) - I will go digging around on TB later today.
