it seems that, unbeknownst to me, killing brain cells has always been one of my favorite pasttimes.

Cliff Clavin had a theory on this that seemed plausible...I just can't remember it now.

"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But, naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

Works for me...

Uummmmmmm....................okay, I won't ask!

Believe me, I was not there by choice! ;)

I have two stepdaughters who were 7 and 10 at the time. They enjoyed it. I spent a lot of time outside in the concession area with numerous other dads.

Still, good times, though. Good times.

Yeah, I'm sure I have many of those times ahead. My daugher is just over a year old, so I'm scared to think of what the future will bring!

I used to worry a lot when they were younger about how I would handle various problems, etc, etc.

My advice: Don't worry so much and just enjoy them while you can! I know a few parents who literally worry themselves sick over every possible (but usually implausible) thing that might happen, to the point that they and their kids are miserable.

Are bad things going to happen at somepoint in their lives? Of course. That's life. All you can do is teach them well, try to keep them safe and hope nothing TOO bad happens.

Believe me, the good times usually outweigh the bad. They really do. You just hug that little girl every chance you get! :D

Bill,

Start putting college money aside now. Worry about the rest as it happens. My kids are 2 and 3 and each have a 529 plan.

Kewl pic! Looks like you and your boys would fit right in at this gig!

I had a dirt bike once. One day, I hit a dump truck head-on in a gravel pit. The bike slid under the front wheel of that truck and the whole bike folded up like a book.

Needless to say, I'm not much of a rider these days...

Me too. All it took was a dislocated leg, broken femur, broken hip, and 3 broken vertabrae to convince me to quit......

Laying on the track, and not being able to move my legs scared the bejeezus out of me......luckily, I'm fine now.....30 lbs heavier, but fine.

Ooo, nice list.

I used to race motocross (250cc class) when I was but a wee teenager.

Took a fall one day and TORE MY KIDNEY.

(Do not tear your kidney if you can possibly help it.)

End of racing career, such as it was.

I wouldn't go running off to the doctor if I were you, Dude.. at least, not until you've ruled out the possibility that it was a hallucination...
