I was driving home one night from a gig in Houston - this was way back, back when dinosaurs ruled the earth - and decided, for a variety of reasons, to take the back roads home instead of 1-45.

I lived up north, near the Champions area, should anyone know or care.

And as I'm listening to prolly Gentle Giant or something equally weird and heading north, some CRAZY EFFIN LIGHTS START FLASHING AT ME FROM THE SKY.

I mean CRAZY. Whatever is up there - and it's not that far off the ground - is big and it's not moving.

But it's flashing lights! Red! Yellow! Who the hell knows!

I had to stuff my heart back down into my chest. Meanwhile, other vital parts were moving north.

I bet those blimp pilots knew exactly what they were doing to me.

Never understood why someone saying they some something unconventional/unexplainable in the sky is grounds for labeling someone a nut job.

Tell us more Jack.

Well, it was the Goodyear Blimp. They used to - maybe still do - have a blimp hangar north of Houston.

Those things can do some weird light stuff.

After I swallowed my tongue and whatnot, they lit themselves up good so I could see it wasn't exactly the Artesians or Tralfamadorians or Ray Walston.

Is it comparable to reading Whitley Streiber's Communion as a kid?

I swear, it took me 6 months to be able to sleep with the lights off after reading that damn book. Scary as ****. I was like 10 years old.
