Oh, and by the way, I am obese, but not as obese as I used to be.

Hopefully not for much longer though. I'm hoping to have that problem solved by the end of the year. Maybe even by Jack's birthday bash.

I believe my body fat percentage was 5% or something last time I checked. Not sure how accurate these things were, I used a few different devices, both gave me that reading.

My BMI is 18.8 by that scale... I'm 25 and have been the same weight since high school. I run 3-4 times a week and lift weights about 3 days a week. I'm also vegetarian. I drink beer, but not a lot... maybe 1 or 2 a day. I have toned up b/c of the weights, but my weight has not changed. I honestly wish I could gain a bit, but I figure my body will even that out as I get older. My dad is still pretty skinny... his weight hasn't changed in years and he's 54. Go figure...

Build up core strength first with compound exercises (bench, pullups, dips, squats) before you go heavy on deadlifts. And don't use any crutches such as a belt, gloves or wrist straps.

roger all that.

thanks for the reinforcement on the crutches. Got into using them awhile back then realized how much I was cheating with them. Not using them now and it is hard on the ego not doing the weight I used to do. The regimen I'm on has me doing plenty of core so I should be good to go. Will be interesting the first time.

Tom,

I'm able to bench a Sterling. I'm working my way up to a Bongo. Hopefully by the summer I can max out on an SR5! ;) :D

Well, I would do the BMI, however, my weight has drastically decreased over the years. 3 major visits to the hospital has caused me to lose over 30 pounds. I was tipping the scales at 180 several years ago....now, I'm at 145 and can't seem to gain weight even though I eat constantly.....

I was a guest at Ramstein AFB Hospital, followed by Bathesda, then Portsmouth (p-town hospital is garbage btw)........in round one.

Round two....local field office (don't know or remember where), then to a hosptial ship (don't remember), then flown to Italy.....then Bathesda (again....stayed for almost 8 months...), then Portsmouth....

Round three.....wound up in a field office, then I woke up in an arab hospital (UAE...very nice people there), sent to Bahrain (yuck), then sent to Italy, followed by Spain, then wound up in Bathesda (yet again), then Portsmouth (yet again).

Rounds two and three were the worse injuries.......:(

But, anywho.....my worse injury should now be sore fingers from playing the bass/guitar as I am on a strict no "getting hurt" diet as directed by CINCHouse.....who will kick my a$$ if I do anything remotely what she calls "Stupid"......:D

Chalk is good for deadlifts. I don't regard chalk as a crutch, since all it does is improve your grip, without providing any lifting assistance. If you're not worried about dropping the bar you can focus more on technique, which is a good thing.

I just found out my brother-in-law lost 200lbs. I can't even imagine what he looks like now. Very glad for him. His health problems should start easing up.

I wonder if chalk is even allowed at the gym I go to. It is a bit of a yuppy gym but I'm glad I don't have to deal with 'roid heads anymore. And the scenery is nice. I'll sneak some chalk in and see if I get yelled at. :D
