I would love to try MarkBass.... If I could find it....

Then again, I haven't been to GC in a couple months... They may have some by now...

I tested a Mark Bass at GC a few weeks ago. They are very good sounding amps. I played a Sterling through one, and a 30th StingRay, both sounded VERY good, Mark Bass is quality stuff, but It didnt impress me enough for me to switch from GK. But never-the-less, Mark Bass is good stuff.

Check your Speakon cable connection.

You need it to be 1 (+) and 2(-).

Check the Neutrik website for guidance.

For what? That is neither the standard for normal (1+/1-) or biamp (1+/2+) . . . .unless someone did something very bizarre at Ampeg, 1+/2- will just run single channel - 1- and 2- are normally the same ground . . . .

Pssst, two words......Mesa Boogie.

making guitarists cry since 1991 for me.

As a bassist with a Mesa head that plays with his Mesa lovin' guitarist brother, I can most assuredly say that you have that phrase backwards.

I think I still have hearing lost from the last time I played with my brother.

I'm told that you can order at your local GC, and they'll ship it into your nearest store from somewhere that has them. I know Chuck did this, and I think a couple of other people have too. Maybe worth giving Chuck a PM, or giving your store a call and seeing what the ETA on an order-in would be.

Thanks, Azzy. I'll keep that in mind when it comes time.

Ahem, it's mostly all been said before, but I will say what I think: Apart from some svt's, Ampeg is a "barely ok" amp manufactuer. Imho and all that of course.
Now, markBass is real nice, as is my little darling Aggies, and there's like a lot of good amps out there that'll just kill your Ampeg.

SVT-4 and Other Amps

If your 4 is still covered with warranty, have it checked. Even if it isn't I would recommend having it checked. I've been using mine for several years and I think it really kicks. I have it integrated with other components and use it in several different combinations as well as a stand-alone - massive power and tone. Any good quality amp working properly should perform as expected.
