I remember I was taking bass and drum lessons at the same time, and my bass teacher said, don't be a slave to two masters. Pick one and get good at it, and I picked bass. I was actually a better drummer at the time, but loved bass more.

I play electric guitar as well. Since my band is pretty much a home studio funtime band, I pretty much write songs on guitar, record them with the band and lay down bass tracks later. I used to just play bass with the band and maybe add a guitar track, but the less we play live, the more I focus on guitar contributions. If we play live, which is pretty rare, I play bass. Practice time around the house is about 50/50.

I play a little guitar (acoustic and electric) but only well enough to noodle around on my own. I'd like to get better at it.

I play bagpipes a bit. Well enough to play in public, not well enough to call myself competent. Now, THAT'S a hard instrument to play well! (Hey, there are only nine notes...how hard can it be?)

I'd really like to learn to play piano, because I'm getting more interested in theory and keyboards lend themselves to learning that.

My first instrument was fiddle. Still play it proficiently to this day. In fact, strangely enough, 22 years ago on this very day was my first lesson! :) The vast majority of my musical life has been on fiddle; I've played across much of the U.S., and I even did some gigs in France & Belgium. I finally began to get worn out of constantly playing the fiddle, so I began concentrating more on bass. I consider the bass my primary instrument right now as that's the instrument I gig with most often these days. I still do a fiddle gig every now & then, though. In fact, my current band is trying to get me to bring the fiddle so we can so a few songs like "Blackwater" & some Charlie Daniels stuff, but I've been refusing...I'm just having too much fun on bass. :D

I also play guitar. I consider myself a pretty good rhythm player, but my leads tend to suck. There's just something about the guitar that never quite snapped into place for me, and I feel like whatever it is is the only thing keeping me from being pretty good. But honestly, I rarely pick up a guitar anymore these days.

I know a few chords on the banjo. I also play mandolin & harmonica. I can play a few things on piano, but my piano playing is even more limited than my guitar playing. I can even play a few tunes on the mountain dulcimer.

Oh, I can also play the hell out of a Cajun (diatonic) accordion. :D

My background in bands has been 6 string until nine years ago - it was only after the band I played in Liverpool folded and I moved to London that I bought my first bass guitar.
I always enjoyed listening to and picking out bass lines on the records I listen to, and find I enjoy playing bass more now than I do guitar (and feel I connect more naturally with 4 strings!).

The guitar background is v useful though - I tend to write most songs on 6 string.
And it means I can put ideas together on my 4 track with guitar, bass (and occasional basic keyboards) and work on songs / arrangements outside my current band scenario.

Just bass, although i do play guitar while sitting around at home sometimes...and I do play our piano once in a while.... but never in a band situation. I consider myself a bass player.

I play a little guitar

I play a regular sized guitar - just not very often and not very well. :D

I started out on drums (well there was the bad story about piano and trumpet years ago...) but switched to bass 20 years ago and haven't looked back. I'd love to have another kit but no place to put it. It would have to be electronic because of the noise, but with the price of a good electronic kit I'm just not that interested.

my trombone playing is almost where my bass playing is. i also play guitar, cello, and piano fairly well, well enough to sightread music on all of them. i mostly stick with bass cleff instruments, cause i'm too lazy to really learn treble cleff.

Move North. There will be enough time sitting around the fire to learn to read treble quite easily. :D

Those trombones are hard to play. They are fretless in a way.

I played piano for two years and then decided to plug away on the trumpet for five :) but then I realized the trumpet doesn't really hook the ladies and I switched to bass :p

I am a guitarist for last 43 years and bassist for a little over a year. My main instruments are Stratocaster and Bongo. I am a new member and I am only interested in bass forum since my guitar intereste is in Fender even though I used to have few vintage MusicMan guitar amps. I used to have pre EB Sting Ray body through strings in Olympic White but I am telling you that my new Bongo is much better bass.

I own a piano, a few guitars, and a Chapman NS Stick. I only play bass (though the Stick is getting some of my attention - sort of).
