OT: Just being pissed off

My friend just said something really Prejudice borderline racist to me. She was said, "Man, when I watch Maury and I always see Black people hoping they aren't the father of the child but you always see the white guy hoping it is his baby and wanting to take it in even if it isn't," then she said,"It makes me really proud to be white." That's where I flipped out. Long story short at the end of it she said, "I don't see what the big deal is". For a minute I was dumbfounded. Finally, I said, "You just told me that I would deny my child and that you are proud to be white because white people done do that." and she thinks im joking... So, as of right now im not talking to her cause I'm kinda pissed. However, I'm a nice person and I'll probably start talking to her again in like three hours.

I just think its dumb how american portrays black people as scum. The only difference is a little be of melanin in the skin, we are the same. It's just really making me mad to hear that come from someone like her.

Anyone with a brain knows that those racial stereotypes are just plain stupid. Remember what TV is trying to do.. especially a show like that. It's meant to be controversial and get everyone all ticked off and emotional. And look, it's working.

Sadly, if she doesn't get it, she may never get it. I mean, have her take a walk around town. She'll see plenty of great fathers of all colors enjoying their children. That alone ought to break her theory.

But it could be something she learned growing up. That's a tough cycle to crack. Just remember if you have your own kids.. be careful what you say around them. They pick up our bad traits as well as our good ones, if we're not careful.

She lives by all the black people. I live in a poor white community so there would be nothing to see where I live

You should tell your freind to start watching Jerry Springer. There are a lot more white idiots, than black idiots on that show.

I am beginning to loathe TV. I'm so very close to doing away with it completely. All it does is pump fear, hatred, negativity, greed, stupidity... I could go on and on, into the so easiliy brainwashed minds of the idiots that live by it.

Even the weather reports crack me up these days. What used to be "thunderstorms this evening" has turned to "severe storm warning with deadly lightning" (as opposed to of course the "safe" lightning we used to have 15 years ago). Fear, fear, fear... they're pumping us full of it, and it's working. In NY the terrorists are the media people. Nobody else.

Thanks. I was gonna say that but I only have news experience here - and let me tell ya, they do their best to do a number on us. After the most recent bombings in England they did hour long special reports to show the horrors up close, with cellphone pictures, interviews of bloodied up victims, etc. Took you as close to it as they could, and then the second half (which I didn't watch) was of course, "How at risk are we of the same attacks?"

I just deleted a whole paragraph cuz I don't want to start getting political here. I just find it really interesting the horrors the media chooses to focus on.
