I am beginning to loathe TV. I'm so very close to doing away with it completely.

I got rid of TV about 10 years ago. Don't miss it and all I can see is that lack of tv has benefited my life in a positive way. I've realized what passive entertainment is and how bad it is. Would rather be out on my bike or playing my Bongo5... And my friends think I am a nutcase because of it.

Thanks BP et.al. for making the best basses and guitars out there. You guys are part of our culture that keep us above water.

Hey Joe, on that "severe storm warning", is the storm severe or the warning :D ?

Media sells stereotype based information to keep the status quo which locks in their target market. It is to their benefit to keep a certain mindset to which they can sell.

My wife got an X-box -- I don't watch tv or play vid games, the only one that tempts me is Myst, due to having to use logic and imagination to solve the problem instead of just killing someone or blowing up something -- anyway, she was playing one of her Star Wars based games the other day and I hear one character speaking with "black ghetto" phrasing and I asked her if she was on Earth in the game? She said no. I said why is that character speaking that way when the others do not. She said she did not know but that the character was black. So even in these vid games the stereotyping is promoted.

It is little wonder that your friend has fallen victim to this mindset. Be patient with her, she probably is totally unaware that something is out of the "norm" based on all the input that she has taken in.

My wife and I are an interracial couple and have had less and less issues with this over the years but it still exists. It takes a long time to change the mainstream of a society.

Find peace in yourself and be proud of being you.

If you know who you are, where you are going and what you strongly believe in then why worry or take the time to allow other things to clutter your mind.

The track is "Television, the Drug of the Nation"

Great band. Fronted by Michael Franti, now of Spearhead.

This is great!!! Placed an order for it from local Barnes & Noble.

Reminds me of Bluezeum.

See, even out of this bad experience, a good thing can be found :)

Urwords, I have to answer your question with a question. Then a statement.

Have you ever let anyone here sway your opinion? I think not.

You have it right prejudice is stupid. It is also taught. It will go away when we make it go away.

I also think this was one time you did not need any of us to tell you that you were right.

Your friend should be reconsidered. None of us need to subsribe to that kind of friendship.

If you have to address your so called friends behavior it should be asking "why do you feel that way?" You don't have to feel that way and I am betting your friend's answer will support my statement.

I will argue all day long with you about basses and non important things. I will not ever not try to make a youngster understand the world has to change.

Thanks Jon. I won't be able to make the open house due to work. I will miss it like no one else. Well, like every one of us that can't make it will.

The Internet can make this a better world IMHO.

This has been one of the most refreshing threads I have read in a while. It is good to know there are people out there with such decent views...

Have any of you guys heard of Adbusters? An eye-opening mag based in Vancouver. If you find a copy it is well worth a read.

As one of the media (i am a news journalist) sometimes my profession sickens me - thats why I work on a local paper and not national any more.

I don't know what to say......sorry?

It's like every other profession. There are both good and bad aspects to it. Look at attorneys - 99% of them make the rest look bad. :D (Sorry Gav, you are obviously in that 1%)
