OT: Just received my Tremol-no

UPS just delivered my Tremol-no. I'm really excited to put it in my JP6, but I'll have to wait about another 2 weeks for my JP6 to ship (at least thats what customer service said yesterday). I think its gonna be great to have the option of using the trem as a dive only trem, fully floating trem, or hardtail. I was originally gonna switch the 10's to 9's when I get the guitar, but instead I think I'm gonna keep the 10's on and mess around with whole step down tuning. I'll give a full review of how the Tremol-no performs in a couple weeks after I install it in my guitar. For any of you guys that have Tremol-no's in your JP6's, how do you like them, and whats your favorite thing about em?

I have a Tremol-No on my JP7, and couldn't imagine the guitar without it.

I keep it locked quite a lot, as i'm not a heavy trem user. But once in a while, i do like to unlock it and have a bit of fun.

My favourite feature is being able to lock down a fully-floating trem for changing strings. You just turn the thumbscrews, change your strings, get them stretched in and tuned up, and when you unlock the screws, your trem doesn't move. Every time i change my strings, i send Kevan an email or IM saying, "Thank you thank you thankyou!" The number of hours it's probably saved me in tuning and re-tuning is immeasurable.

A few tips:

- Use a bit of the blue LocTite on the threads of the thumbscrews, especially if you plan on leaving the back plate off (as i have). Without the thread locker, the screws can work their way loose when the T-No is unlocked, and they can can drop out when you least expect it. Thankfully, there is an extra screw included in the package.

- Dave at Frets on the Net has templates to make JP7 back plates Kevan has designed with the access hole cutouts. You might want to consider picking one up. It's definitely on my list of things to get. Dave makes some seriously high-quality parts.

- Take your time installing it. Alignment of the shaft with the receiver is critical for it to work with minimal friction. If it's installed right, you shouldn't feel any metal-on-metal "drag" when using the trem.

- Keep the shaft well-lubricated with a PTFE (Teflon) lubricant. Kevan recommends Permatex UltraSlick. It comes as a spray, or a gel formulation (preferred). The gel doesn't get everywhere, and it keeps the friction to a minimum.

That's the beauty of the Tremol-No... it gives you the best of both worlds. Need to change strings or experiment with altered tunings? Twist two thumbscrews and your bridge is fixed (with all the advantages thereof).

Go back to your regular tuning and twist two thumbscrews and you're back to full-floating.

I don't think i could live with a floating trem without one.

Thanks for the tips Darren. Are the JP7 backplates the same size as the JP6 backplates? I think I'm gonna call CS and order another one just so that I can have it if I need it, I'm sure they can't be that expensive.

Sorry, yes... i had the JP7 on my mind. Frets on the Net can make you a JP6 cover plate as well.

I didn't even know what people where talking about with this new product!

I posted a different thread about switching from Drop D tuning and playing standard back and forth and one guy replied "Tremol-no"

I was like. "Tremol-who?" then I went to that site and wow this is impressive.

Hey does anyone know if this pin type installation which is what most of them come as these days will work with the LUKE model?

I don't see why not but just checking.

If anyone has installed this Tremol-No on a luke please let me know I would to know before I order the Tremol-No.

Also we can exchange notes.

I would imagine it would if you guys have tried it on the Petrucci model.

If the Luke has the same kind of tremolo block that the JP has, I'm sure it will work. I haven't installed mine yet because my JP isn't here yet, so I can't really help ya. But I'm sure Darren or someone else can.

You bought three of what? tremol-no's or Luke's?

Darren someone said you might have some insight, will the tremel-no work with the Luke 2 tremblock. Tremel-no is about 99.9% sure it will.

Mine is the NON-Piezo model six string. Fulcrum type Trem.

MM ships them only with two springs, in the Tremol-no video they are using a Jackson which has three in the demo.

If anyone has done this with one of the luke model's please let me know.

i've ordered a petrucci JP6 a week ago, should be here next week (hopefully) and gonna install it in that since i'm not a heavy trem addict it would be good for me.
