Went out for a lunchtime walk today and stopped into Manny's to look at some accoustics. As I was leaving, walking out past the electrics, I noticed a Satch model set up high that didn't have the lock strap attached to the hanger. Since I've never played one, and since I can reach the top row, I grabbed it and noodled unplugged for a few moments. Then I put it back started to walk out again when...

A guy walks by in black shirt, jeans and sneakers, newspaper under his arm, but with a black fishing hat pulled halfway down his head and sunglasses on.

Did a quick double take and then turned around. He was just kind of wandering around and walked into the accoustic room. I casuallly wandered back in as well. He set up in the corner facing the wall, pulled down a guitar and played for about 60 seconds max (oh well no free lunchtime concert). Walked back out and headed toward the electrics. He was looking at one of the Schenker B&W V models and some other guy started chatting with him about it.

Finally I said WTH and casually walked over said hello, that I was a fan and had just been playing his sig model which was on the wall next to us. I mentioned I liked the neck because it had some meat on it and wasn't a flat shredder and he said it was based on a classic 50's strat. Then I told him that I was a Music Man guy though and he should tell John when he saw him later. He laughed and said OK. I thanked him for his time, and said that I'd put Super Colossal on the ipod for the train ride home.

All told I spoke to him about a minute he was very nice, gracious and I didn't want to take too much of his time.

G3 is at the Garden tomorrow. (although I'm can't make it :( )

Cooooool. Satch is a very nice guy (and has a great sense of humor!). Now, if you thought sparkle finishes were hard, try chrome painting an EBMM! :D

When I worked for the Music and Sound Retailer I used to go to all the NAMM shows and one afternoon I was in the lobby of the Hilton having a drink and Satch came up right behind us and we talked and had a drink with him, I told him I was a MM guy as well and he said they were cool guitars, I had a few drinks so I dont remember much but I remember my friend commenting that he had really hairy arms, thats my satch story!

He is an incredible kind guy, I got to see the G3 tour when they first toured with John. Met Satch and Vai and my picture with both of them ended up in the front page of the newspaper. He spent a nice chunk of time chatting with me and so did Vai, when I met him I said "It's really an honor" and Steve replied back "No, the honor is mine I'm sure you are one hell of a guitar player"

I dont know why he said that, maybe he thought it would leave a really nice memory in my head, and boy it sure did.

I met John on other occassion as well with the whole DT gang, but I didnt had my JP7 back then.

Michael, that's great man!!!! Always nice when things like that happen. It's never happened to me, but I'm hoping some day.

Satch is super fantastic. I really like the bodies on the Satch models. I find them quite comfy. I feel like I owe him money for the great guitar lessons.
