We put all of the keyboard parts from our recent recordings onto a stereo track(one side with a click track for drummer and the other side with no click for the P.A.) and loaded them into an ipod.Last night was the first rehearsal and it went amazingly well. We have a show on Friday so we'll see how it goes..........Oh yeah ,my new Sterling sounded amazing at rehearsal also.It was the first time I had used it outside of the studio/home and the headroom on that bass just blew me away.

Now there's a keyboard player I can partner with...

Love to hear how it works out for you in the live situation. :)

Hah! Nice one!

We did the same with our "drummer" recently. Our last drummer left to go on tour (he's a lighting guy), so for pratices & a few gigs we just took some studio tracks and mixed 'em down to mp3s of the drums only.

Sounded great, and I think the band's IQ jumped up a few points.

Hola Y'all,
Been sequencing drums with my current band for the last 5 yrs or so. I do all the Tracks, and DON"T quantize them so they sound "Metrono-ish", but breath as much as possible. And it makes my job easier since I can lock up better. Believe me, I'm old school, and prefer to play with a drummer but, honestly, ain't much to pick around here. The band was iffy at first, but they love the "reliabilty" of knowing it's always there!

Hey, Hey, HEY! I Resemble That Remark! I pay for all them damn basses playing keyboards!!!

… just joking, my wife pays for the basses…

Randy I’ve been doing the same thing since the early 80’s, with one technology or another. I bet the iPod is great in this application.

Are you giving your drummer a couple of measures of click up front, with another measure for the count off?

We are looking for a keyboard player- and not having any luck:(

Our drummer has been making noises about a piece of equipment you can load your keyboard lines onto in advance- then at the gig you can fire the part off at the right tempo by leading it in with four taps on a footpedal (guess who's gonna get that job...)- Saves having to use a click track.

Have to admit I've never heard of this stuff, but it sounds useful- anyone??

Cheers,

BF

The drummer went into the studio and did the click track himself using a drumstick with a Roland drum pad so I guess it's a little more forgiving/human than a drum machine click.I think he gave himself 16 clicks going into each song and he's actually the only one hearing the click so I have to make sure i'm locked in with him. When he gives us four we gotta be ready or else:eek:
The keys were actually recorded by the drummer with a Micro Korg.We have one song in the set where one of our guitarists plays drums and our drummer sings through the vocoder on the Micro Korg, it's pretty hilarious. I already posted this link in another thread but in case you didn't hear it here's a sample of the kind of keyboard stuff we have going.More weird sounds that actual skilled playing like you Chuck:)

Oh, man.

The 40-watt bulb just went on.

We don't have a live drummer. We use two Alesis SR-16 drum machines that hold all our stuff. They sound great and we're really happy with the arrangement.

But to be able to eliminate both machines, the mixer and all of the wall warts in favor of an iPod?

OoooOOOooohhhhh....

There's only one catch.

We NEED to start/stop the thing via footswitch.

Anybody know of a way to do that?

I did a little project something like what you need. I broke into my alarm clock and wired a button for "sleep" so I could put the clock further from my bed(I have a habit of turning it off and going back to sleep). I imagin if you were willing to do something like that in there you could.

Coludn't you just have it somewhere near onstage and start/stop it manually? If you have each song as a separate file and in the order of your setlist it should be pretty easy.

you could get one of those burton jackets with the ipod controls sewn into the sleeve and just rock that, although whoever has to wear it would be pretty miserable

you could also rip it out and sew it to a guitar strap or something, but those jackets are expensive
