guys ...
been a while since i play with my black beauty, for 2 weeks, we've been renting a studio for our rehearsal and i rent their ampeg 350H with an ampeg svt410hlf ...

strange is both ampeg 350h and the blackbeauty has the same power rating, both pushes 350W at 4ohm ... black beauty even pushes further 450W at 2ohm ... but after the rehearsal with ampeg and return to my black beauty ...
it really really really feel powerless ..
its like it has lost the power and punch and low end somewhere ..

any of you ever notice this .. ?
to put it a contrast, i A/Bed the black beauty with a friend's fender rumble 100 (100W) and i even 'feel' fender than the swr :( :(

SWR combos are not known for their rumble, they are known for there hi-fi, clean, acurate sound. I love my Super Redhead, and run it flat most of the time (I run the Stingrays flat or nearly flat also). Besides, too much rumble only messes up the house mix.

I have learned EQ settings will make or break any amp or speaker combo. I hate it when I hear a P bass is preferred over an EB for any reason other than no growl.

Only bluegrass players should be able to tell the difference.

That said, the only thing my SR 5 is lacking is full passive mode. If it had that it would mean my Jazz bass could stay home.

Amps are different more so than basses, and for all the time I spend on the Internet tallking or reading about basses I hear more about basses sounding some way with no input of what amp they are plugged into.

Being a good bass player is very hard even in this world of worldwide communication.
Mostly the bass gets blamed for everything. R 5 won't sound right on some amps or bass. Am I wrong?

IMHO

the 410hlf is ampegs bottom heavy cab compared to their 410he. it coulda been the cab itself that caused the rumble. or it coulda just been that ampeg soud in general.
