OT: My dilemma..............

Here's the situation:

Ok, I got a call from a local band a couple of days ago. They have lost their bass player. And have asked me to do a show this weekend.

So, I went to rehearse with them and took my trusty Steinberger. No problem. I have used it for 99% of the shows I have played since 1994.

DISCLAIMER: I only discovered the joy and rapture of EBMM within the last few years. Please bear in mind that I have not been with a band for well over 5 years. And therefore have never used an EBMM in a band situation. Besides, they are too pretty to take to any of the crappy dives around THIS town!

So, everything was going swimmingly and we had a break. The guitarist asked me what other gear I had, and I went down the list.

:eek: :eek: NOW they want me to use my Sterling fretless for the show. :eek: :eek:

But it might get dinged, or scratched, or looked at, or breathed on wrong!!

Any advice?

Come on man, they all get marked eventually. May as well be on "active duty" as anywhere else.

I'm contemplating buying a 30th Anniv. if I do I will gig it. **** the scratches, the bass still sounds the same,

Second, that bass was meant to be gigged. Deep down inside, you know this already.

Yeah Join a Country band they let you play whatever you want. hehehe

Buy another fretless to archive and play yours at the gig. Have fun!

I hate dings and scratches on my basses too - but some of them have great stories and memories behind them!!

Look. It's a bass. It's a tool. It's an OBJECT. It's not the freakin' Star of India.

It's not even unique. If it gets utterly destroyed, you can get another one just like it.

PLAY THAT MOFO FOR ALL IT'S WORTH!!!!!

Maybe I'm dense, but I have never understood those who deify objects. Your Sterling was built to be used, not worshipped.

That in a nutshell is why I have the utmost respect for Jack, who truly does have a unique bass, the Flaming Green Biff Bongo.

And he gigs with it.

THAT'S COOL.

Parking it under the bed is for weenies.
