Whoa, I mean that isn't boutique pricey, I guess, but it's still up there.

For that kind of cash, I'm going to remain purdy damned happy with my reliable old Ampegs and wait around to see what happens with Markbass, I think.

Ben's rig was quite righteous, I do admit it, but I got no complaints about my stuff, really.

A bit of exuberant practice. My Ampeg 15 is done for. That Bongo is killer. Can the Berg handle it?

Gig in two days.

Honestly, and this came up in conversation tonight between my drummer and I. The better question is what cant the Berg handle?:D

Make the plunge Tom. Your ears will thank you.

Bad line voltage to the power amp is the only thing that killed the 12" woofer in my Bergie. Otherwise, fire and forget.

I remember you had problems with an Ampeg 15, Tom, but now I can't remember what else you were using. Just the 15? I've done that a few times, feeling lazy and not getting paid much back in the San Antonio days and the 1-15 is WAY lighter than the 4-10, but mostly I just use the 4-10 cabinet and Cowpilot has been known to get, um, slightly exuberant at times.

And God knows I play Bongos. And that Sunn head has never been accused of being underpowered.

What WERE you up to when that happened?

To not completely hijack this thing and also to brag a bit, while I did love Ben's rig, I think/hope that he'll agree that mine does exactly what I want it to do. It ain't hi-fi or anything, but that's why I love it.

Well a trip to Seattle might be what keeps the wife from killing me. Question is can I make it there and back in two days without breaking the truck?

Jack wasn't telling a tall tale when he said the Bongo could destroy small cities. But you do need a good cab to give it a chance.

I was having fun.

Jack I just replaced one 10 in my ampeg 2x10 and the 15 let go. I even lowered the pickup on the bongo. Maybe I should blame the Peavey?

You do want more watts than you need, Tom, for the speakers' health and for a good, full Low B. I would think an Ampeg 4x10 with your 700watt Peavey head would be fine. Might want to check if that 700 watts is with 2 or 4 ohms. If it's 4, get a 4-ohm cab. If it's two, daisy chain two 2-ohm cabs to get full effect. I think.

It does 450 watts at the 4 ohms I am running it. The ampegs have seen a lot of different basses and amps. Still I think the Peavey may be more than what they can handle with the Bongo attached.

I dunno since I am still learning.

Jack's amp is jess fine, I tell you. I likey lots.

Sounds like me, don't it?

I dunno, Thomas, I just dunno. If it's 700 watts, then I agree with Ben - it should be fine. But IF you push the amplifier section into distortion in any way shape or form, those square waves can do fugly things right quick like. That's why I like having way more wattage than I'll ever conceivably need.

Before the Sunn, I was running a QSC based rig that was around 1400 watts. It never even warmed up, really. Same with the Sunn.

More power, mo betta. I wouldn't - if I were you - blame the cabs right off, although it might turn out to be the case.

New cab in the house. Ordered through Atlanta Discount Music (Marshall was the most incredible salesman of all time). Picked it up today.

When I was going to Ga. Tech, I used to live almost across the street from their old location (in Chamblee). Many, many fond memories of that shop. My first Stingray, a black '77, ended up there in my first 'basses I shouldn't have parted with' episode back in '88 or so.

I've had a Berg 3x10 and NV610 in the past. They are mighty, mighty cabinets. This rig could knock down walls.

Travis, enjoy your new cab!!

The Firebass puts out 700 watts at 2 ohms. You would need to combine two 4 ohm cabs to get the full 700 watts. That is unless you can find a cab that is rated at 2 ohms.

Aha. Now we're getting some useful information! Andrew is wise beyond his posts!

I don't know about your cabs, Tom, but mine are 8 ohms which I combine to get a 4 ohm load so I can really max out the Sunn.

Whoa, look at Todd's big manly rig! I've always wanted to try one of those Fafners, even though I feel a little effiminate when I say the word out loud.

Tom, if you have the Nitrobass @ 450 watts @ 4 ohms, I believe you would benefit from a head with more power, my friend.

I know what the firebass does at what ohms. I have a 210 and 15 8 ohms each. Those ampegs are rated at 200 watts once in awhile. The peavey is putting out 450 at the 4 ohm load it is seeing. Should be some overhead the way I see it but...
The Bongo seems to be the difference really. It is awesome.

The peavey is not dimed and neither is the bongo.

We're not just gear whores.

We're power sluts.

Although when I start thinking about how much power I need, I always remember playing this little party over at Oldtoe's mom's house and I used a 50 watt Ampeg combo and Ben's ex-Stingray and thought it sounded just fine.

I can see that little amp from here. It's all slumped over and dejected. It deserves better, I tell you.
