Some of you might remember that I moved from St. Paul,MN to Ft. Wayne,IN around 5 months ago. I played in several bands up in Minnesota but since moving hadn't been playing out as much. Ft. Wayne is kinda lame when it comes to a music scene but to be fair,my standards are pretty high for musical projects I devote a large chunk of time to.
A few months ago a friend turned me on to a very talented blues/rock guitarist that had recently put out a cd. He gigs out often in the area and had recently parted with his band. I emailed Brad(the guitarist) about getting together to talk about music and to possibly jam but at the time he had recently put together a new band. A few weeks ago I get a call from Brad about getting together for an audition. His bass player was unable to make weekday gigs and they were starting to book some house band gigs around the city.
To make a long story short we ended up getting together for an audition and things went so well that they canceled the auditions with the other bass players.
Since then I've learned their album and a few hours worth of blues/rock covers. My first gig with them is Aug. 2nd and we then play every tuesday/wednesday for the next couple months with some weekend gigs sprinkled throughout that period so far.
The band is a power trio and I think it's about the most fun I've had in a band situation. Everyone knows their role and executes their job very well. We are all in our mid 20's, so there always seems to be a lot of positive energy and chemistry going on. I'm talk'n LOUD, balls to the wall, Blues-Rock. Gov't Mule meets-Robin Trower meets-Rory Gallagher meets-Joe Bonamassa meets-Richard Wagner...ok scratch the Wagner part but I think you get the idea:Good stuff.
I just wanted to share my excitement with all my brothers and sisters on the forum. I'm also very glad I get a chance to turn my rig up to 'leven and let it roar. The dual humbucker Bongo is a blues BEAST.
I will keep you'll up to date with gig pics and perhaps some live clips soon. Just before I joined the band, they opened up for Joe Bonamassa at the local Ribfest, in front of 4,000 people. Dang, sorry I missed that gig.
He's coming back in December, so maybe I'll have a second shot.
