my teacher started to play Scenes From A Memory for our class. he says its probably one of the best concept albums he's heard and that the story is nothing but amazing. I never knew that he was a Prog fan.

another reason why school can be decent sometimes haha

Wow!
That's awesome!!! How did the class take it? Most people aren't ready for prog rock... it takes some building up to IMO.

well we were on the topic of stories in music so he went and printed off the lyrics for us and gave us the background of whats going on. everyone seems to be taking it pretty well.

Hmmm... I wonder if you guys will cover Tommy by The Who. That's a great story. I only got exposed to that because of Scenes in a Memory.
Great story Johnny

yeah it really made my day. I think we might cover Tommy after Christmas break or something like that or maybe I should bring up the story of the six degrees of inner turbulence

I don't know about you, but the first time I heard DT (SFAM) I fell in love. Before I listened to mainstream stuff. I was programmed to love Prog.

Queensryche's "Operation Mindcrime" would make for good discussion of a concept album too. You get the four essentials with that story: sex, drugs, religion, and politics.

The first DT I ever listened to was a live cover of "Pull me Under" and I bought Images and Words and was hooked, so I guess I was programmed for Prog too. It's just been my experience that most people don't have that reaction. It seems to be more common amongst musicians, as prog is a musically rewarding genre.
Just my 2 cents.

SFAM in English class? You'd better get an A.

That is, unless he makes you play the whole thing. Good luck with the Beyond This Life and Home solos...

I had to study Pink Floyd's The Wall. It wasn't in English, but Religious Education of all classes. Something to do with personal development, ie. how not to live. It was great!

while we're at it, how about we just have a mega-meddle of 2112, Cygnus X-1, and Hemispheres all together in one.

(that's about a solid hour of Rush goodness...)
