I dont know about that model but every Trace Elliot product Ive ever had has been extremely powerful. This combo is what I currently use and I have no problem hearing myself. Its supposedly only 150 watts but its every bit as loud as the SM-900 Goliath III setup I had before and IMHO sounds alot better.

My Trace combo doesn't sound particularly top notch right now. It's making a horrible distorted sound and needs to go in for a service.

I'm loving my Sansamp BDDI right now.

When I got mine off of ebay it wasnt in the greatest of shape. I replaced the speakers and serviced the inside, (Cleaning, checking connections, etc.) Mine is laid out pretty cool. The Preamp can actually be taken out and used as a rackmount standalone. Its in an entirely seperate chassis from the power section.

I'm using an AH300SMX and it's INCREDIBLY loud with a 4 ohm 2x15 Trace cabinet, and pretty damn loud through two 12" Bergantino cabs. The 500W version would actually be a head so powerful you'd have to be careful with many cabs. My take is that most gigging bassists would be more than happy with the 300/350 heads, and you'd only need 500W if you're playing large venues or have loud guitarists AND you have money to put into multiple large cabs (such as 2+ 4x10's)

Trace made excellent gear. Huge bargain at today's prices.

I have 2 (two) Trace heads. Both are ah250smx heads. (actually, one is an rah). You would never think you can get that much headroom from 250. I'm alive and well and can say without a doubt you can. The older trace amps have more punch if ya use the pre-shape. I use one rig with an Eden 410xlt and Eden 15t. The other rig I use a Trace 4-10 plus a 2-10. Older ones with the variable ports. Trace cabs are GREAT! EDEN cabs are GREAT TOO! I found out Stingrays are the POOP, too.

I have a mark 5 GP11 Trace Elliot AH150 head running into a 15" Trace Elliot cab, which I've had since the late 80's, gigged hundreds of times with and it's been a model of reliability.

I agree with road pop - the pre-shaping is great and you can fine-tune the sound with the graphic eq for any venue.

It's plenty loud, despite being 'only' 150 watts, I never had the volume anywhere near full despite playing some large(ish) venues.

I've not been gigging for a few years now so it's not been out in a while, but I can feel the need to hook her back up in the not too distant future :D

loud

i usea trace elliot ah400smx stack (pictured below) in both balance of silence
( www.myspace.com/balanceofsilence ) and fatemaker
( http://www.myspace.com/11369024 ) and have found it to be nothing less than amazing, its easy to use, versatile and very, very LOUD!! and has taken me from tiny pub stages to 7,000 seaters with ease. The 500smx is a great amp with a little more headroom which you will (hopefully!) never need to use, and i think the bi-amp facility, but i cant remember if that was only on the Ah600smx.

Probably the last amp youll ever need and really does my 'Ray justice!

I'm told that Trace and Ashdown sound very similar. If so, Rock On. I LOVE my Ashdown ABM 500 and the T.E. stuff looks great. I'm not a big fan of the "preshaping" (sounds too boomy with no mids)so I leave that on flat and use the Eq to get my sound.
